Ye scores 22, USciences tops Jefferson

Irisa Ye (North Wales/North Penn) tied a game-high with 22 points — 15 coming in the second half — while also registerin­g seven rebounds and two assists as the USciences women’s basketball team avenged its lone loss of the season as the Devils handed Jefferson its first defeat 70-59 last Tuesday.

Taylor Hamm (Collegevil­le/ Perkiomen Valley) added 10 rebounds, five points, five assists and two steals, Jess Huber (Hatfield/North Penn) had five points and two rebounds while Mikaela Giuliani (Lansdale/North Penn) grabbed three rebounds for USciences

Caitlyn Cunningham (Dresher/ Mount Saint Joseph) — who was named Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Co-Player of the Week Monday — paced Jefferson with 22 points and also collected three rebounds while Jessica Kaminski (Philadelph­ia/ Archbishop Wood) had 19 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Alynna Williams (Ambler/Plymouth Whitemarsh) chipped in eight points, four rebounds and two steals and Erin Maher (Lansdale/North Penn) had three points, four rebounds and two blocks.

Both teams went on to pick up victories last Saturday.

Cunningham scored a careerhigh 32 points to go along with nine rebounds, five steal and two assists as Jefferson bounced back by rolling past Dominican (N.Y.) 69-47. Kaminski had 16 points,

eight rebounds and four assists with Maher chipping in six points, six rebounds and three steals.

Ye finished with 11 points, five assists and two rebounds, Hamm had nine rebounds, two points and two assists while Huber added four points as Jefferson won its 11th straight, cruising past Concordia (N.Y.) 82-46.

• Lock Haven men’s basketball’s Matt Cerruti (Huntingdon Valley/Archbishop Wood) was named Pennsylvan­ia State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Co-Player of the Week Monday after helped the Bald Eagles clinch a PSAC Tournament berth with two wins last week.

Cerruti capped off his second straight doubledoub­le last Wednesday by hitting a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Bald Eagles a 63-60 victory over Mansfield. Cerruti finished with 16 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two steals while Jesse McPherson (Philadelph­ia/ Archbishop Carroll) added 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

Last Saturday in a 78-75 win over Bloomsburg, Cerruti was just a point shy of tying his career high, scoring 30 points — 24 in the second half. Cerruti also finished with eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals while McPherson posted 10 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks as LHU snapped an eight-game skid against Bloomsburg. McPherson posted 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks.

• Kutztown wrestling’s Chad Haegele (Warrington/Archbishop Wood) was named PSAC Wrestler of the Week as he extended his unbeaten streak to 16 with a pair of pins at 157 pounds in two victories by the Golden Bears last week.

Haegele — ranked 12th in Division II at 157 by InterMat.com — pinned Rob Saum in 1:30 in KU’s 33-9 win over Millersvil­le last Tuesday. Haegele then improved his record to 17-1 by pinning Marquan Payne at 6:13 last Friday as Kutztown shut out East Stroudsbur­g 47-0.

Jeff Reimel (Lansdale/ North Penn) also earned a pair of wins at 184 for Kutztown last week. Reimel — ranked No. 1 in DII at 184 by InterMat.com — claimed a 7-1 decision over Millersvil­le’s Evan Morrill then picked up a 17-1 technical fall over ESU’s Dillon Warner at 5:33.

• Cam Reddish (Norristown/Westtown School) shot 3-of-5 from 3-point range in scoring 17 points while also posting three assists, three steals, two assists and two blocks last Saturday as the secondrank­ed Duke men’s basketball team defeated No. 3 Virginia 81-71 last

Last Tuesday, Reddish finished with a game-high 24 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals as Duke routed Boston College 80-55.

• Olivia Gorman (Lower Gwynedd/Germantown Academy) became the 12th player in Wesleyan University (Conn.) history — and the first in 10 years — to score 1,000 career points as she finished with a gamehigh 23 points in the Cardinals’ 92-75 loss to Bowdoin College last Saturday.

Gorman came into the contest needing 23 points to reach 1,000. She went 4-of-7 on 3-pointers and also had five rebounds and three steals.

Gorman scored in double figures in two wins earlier in the week. Last Tuesday in beating Vermont Tech 93-42, Gorman posted 14 points, three rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks. Gorman finished with a game-high 23 points, eight rebounds and three assists last Friday in a 78-59 win over Colby.

• Taylor O’Brien (Lafayette Hill/Plymouth Whitemarsh) scored 10 points as the Bucknell women’s basketball team routed Lafayette 75-43 last Saturday for the Bison’s ninth win in a row.

Lafayette’s Natalie Kucowski (Philadelph­ia/ Saint Basil) had a gamehigh 11 rebounds and also tied for the team-high in scoring with nine points. Kucowski also had two assists and two blocks.

• Matt Penecale (Jenkintown/Abington) and Evan-Eric Longino (Furlong/Germantown Academy) both scored in double figures for the West Chester men’s basketball team last Saturday as it tied a program record with their 13th consecutiv­e win and also gave coach Damien Blair with 200th career victory as the Golden Rams defeated Kutztown 85-67.

Penecale posted 13 points, six assists, five rebounds and two steals while Longino finished with 12 points and four rebounds.

Kutztown’s Anthony Lee (Willow Grove/Abington) collected 13 points, four rebounds and a pair of blocks in the contest.

Last Tuesday in WCU’s 83-64 win over Millersvil­le, Longino had 13 points, five rebounds and two assists with Penecale contributi­ng 12 points, five assists and three rebounds.

The same day, Lee scored a game-high 27 points and also had six rebounds, eight assists and two steals as Kutztown bested Bloomsburg 99-77 6 rebounds, 8 ass 2

• Monmouth women’s basketball’s Alexa Middleton (Philadelph­ia/Abington Friends) recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 12 rebounds last Thursday as the Hawks fell to Rider 65-50. Last Saturday, Middleton posted eight points, eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals as Monmouth edged Siena 5654 in overtime. Siena’s Deja Rawls (Abington/Abington) had six points, three assists and a pair of steals.

• Carlie Doughty (Souderton/Souderton) scored her first career goal while goalkeeper Harley Barrett (Perkiomenv­ille/Perkiomen Valley) made 12 saves as the Coastal Carolina women’s lacrosse team began their season with an 19-10 win over Old Dominion last Saturday.

Lindsay Baer (Abington/Abington) and Lauren Irvine (Ambler/Wissahicko­n) both scored a goal for ODU while the Mary Katherine Maloney (Gwynedd/Mount Saint Joseph) collected three ground balls.

• Saint Joseph’s women’s lacrosse’s Sam McGee (Abington/Abington) scored two goals as the Hawks fell to Georgetown last Saturday. Ali Diamond (Lafayette Hill/Plymouth Whitemarsh) had a goal for the Hoyas.

• Sydney Rausa (Ambler/Hatboro-Horsham) scored the Delaware women’s lacrosse team’s opening goal — tying score 1-1 with 7:17 in the first half — as the Blue Hens started their season with a 7-4 victory over Temple last Friday.

Amber Lambeth (Harleysvil­le/Souderton) handed out a pair of assists for 2 assists for Temple while Jen Rodzewich (Hilltown/Pennridge) had a goal.

• Bailey Greenberg (North Wales/Archbishop Wood) became the first Drexel women’s basketball player to score 20 or more points in four consecutiv­e games since 2009-2010 as she scored 23 points and seven rebounds as the Dragons defeated Delaware 58-41 Sunday.

Aubree Brown (Philadelph­ia/Archbishop Wood) added seven points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals for Drexel, which won its eighths straight. Delaware’s Lizzie Oleary (Willow Grove/Abington) finished with six points and eight rebounds.

• Nicole Munger (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) scored the final four points of the Michigan women’s basketball team’s 66-62 win over Penn State Saturday — her jumper to beat the shot clock putting the Wolverines up 64-62 with 1:38 remaining while hitting two free throws in the final seconds to make it a four-point game. Munger finished with nine points, four rebounds and two steals as Michigan won its fourth straight.

Last Thursday in a 6761 victory over Nebraska, Munger posted six points, four steals and two rebounds.

• Luke Connaghan (Warrington/Archbishop Wood) tallied 19 points, six rebounds and three assists while Tracy Simsick (Harleysvil­le/Souderton) racked up 16, four rebounds and two assists last Wednesday as the DeSales mens’s basketball team bested Manhattanv­ille 91-83.

Last Saturday, Connaghan had 16 points, four rebounds and two assists, Simsick finished with nine points, four rebounds and two steals while Mike Bealer (Harleysvil­le/Souderton) chipped in three points as the Bulldogs topped Misericord­ia 76-60.

• Emory women’s basketball’s Erin Lindahl (Yardley/Germantown Academy) had a season-high 20 points, six rebounds and two assists as the Eagles defeated Chicago 6057 Sunday for their seventh win in a row.

. Allison Chernow (Dresher/Upper Dublin) added nine points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Eagles. Lindahl hit 3-of-5 from beyond the 3-point arc, extending her streak of making at least one three to 17 games — the seventh-longest streak in Emory history

Both Chernow and Lindahl scored in double figures last Friday in a 7566 win over Washington (Mo.), Chernow going for 15 points, seven rebounds and seven assists with Lindahl finishing with 12 points and three rebounds.

• Ursinus men’s basketball’s Zack Muredda (Perkasie/Pennridge) scored a career-high 20 points while also registerin­g three rebounds and three assists last Wednesday as the Bears fell to Washington College (Md.) 8367. Shane Stark (Collegevil­le/La Salle) finished with eight points, seven rebounds and two assists for UC while Ryan McTamney (Roxborough/La Salle) added seven points, seven rebounds and three steals.

Last Saturday in a 9081 loss to Johns Hopkins, McTamney had a gamehigh 21 points, five rebounds and three assists, Stark posted 12 points, eight rebounds and six assists with Muredda collecting 11 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.

• Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown/Jenkintown) finished with 22 points, six rebounds and four assists as the Gettysburg women’s basketball team defeated Ursinus 82-70 last Tuesday.

Lydia Konstanzer (Sellersvil­le/Pennridge) scored a game-high 28 points for Ursinus while also recording nine rebounds and three assists.

Dorshimer went on to score in double figures as the Bullets won their next two games. She had 12 points, nine rebounds and two assists in a 74-46 win over McDaniel last Thursday then tallied 19 points and five rebounds last Saturday in a 64-38 victory over Washington (Md.).

Last Wednesday, Konstanzer had 13 points, four rebounds and two steals as the Bears claimed a 64-49 win over Washington (Md.). The Shorewomen’s Cassidy Quattro (Lansdale/Hatboro-Horsham) had a teamhigh 16 points and a gamehigh nine rebounds.

Konstanzer then collected 13 pints, four rebounds and two steals as UC beat McDaniel 55-53 last Saturday.

• Lauren Crim (Warrington/Lansdale Catholic) had 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals while Cassie Sebold (Willow Grove/Archbishop Wood) collected 11 points and two rebounds as the Chestnut Hill women’s basketball team lost 78-65 to Georgian Court last Tuesday. Abbey Spratt (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) added nine points and four rebounds for the Griffins.
