Board approves restaurant on Forty Foot Road
TOWAMENCIN >> A new fast-food restaurant has gotten the goahead from Towamencin’s supervisors.
The supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday night to approve a request needed for a new restaurant on Forty Foot Road.
“The developer is proposing to construct a 3,013-square-foot Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers restaurant, with a drive-through window, on Forty Foot Road,” said supervisors Chairman Chuck Wilson.
“The site currently includes Wawa and Chick-fil-A, and the proposed drive through requires conditional use approval by the
board of supervisors,” he said.
In January a team of consultants presented plans on behalf of Freddy’s, a national fast food chain founded in 2002 and named after the father of the company’s two co-founders. The new restaurant would be located on Clemens Family Corporation property just behind the Chick-fil-A on Forty Foot Road, with a similar layout including a drive-through with two queue lanes and two order boards that merge as they surround the building.
During the board’s Jan. 23 meeting, the applicants showed plans indicating how the new restaurant would be surrounded by roughly 38 parking spaces, and connected to the adjacent Chick fil-A by a private driveway, and an adjacent parcel is tentatively planned for development as an auto mechanic service shop.
After the applicant’s presentation on Jan. 23, the board voted to direct staff to prepare a conditional use approval, granting the restaurant the use of the drive-through. Solicitor Jack Dooley read that resolution on Feb. 14, saying the terms and conditions all fit those discussed the month before.
“The order indicates that the conditional use is granted, to permit the construction and operation of the restaurant with the drive-through,” he said
“Further, the conditional use is granted, subject to
the development and use of the property in accordance with the testimony and exhibits presented at the hearing,” he said.
One other condition requested by the applicants last month was also granted: that the timeline for the approval not begin immediately.
“This conditional use approval will remain in effect, and is not to expire, until six months following the date of final land development approval,” Dooley said.
The board voted unanimously to approve the conditional use resolution, and supervisor Laura Smith said she has already sampled Freddy’s food at another of their restaurants in the area, and said she thinks they’ll be a hit here.
“I did a little reconnaissance: I drove down and enjoyed a fine meal there. I think our community will be very excited,” she said.
