Manager: Springer Road homeowner taking steps to clean up property
TOWAMENCIN >> Residents of Springer Road will be glad to hear the news delivered by their township manager Wednesday night.
“We’re not through with it yet, but it’s good that there was a response, and some action taken,” said Township Manager Rob Ford.
Earlier this month, about two dozen residents of Springer Road sounded off to the board about several concerns with one of their neighbors, a house on the 1900 block of their street where several additional buildings were located behind a single-family home, with suspicions that the occupants were making noise at night, running vehicles onto neighboring properties, operating businesses, and involved in altercations.
When The Reporter visited the site the day
after the concerns were raised, multiple prefabricated buildings and storage units could be seen along a driveway at the rear of the property, with pallets, construction cones, and electrical cords between, and several vehicles parked on the site in various stages of disrepair, while an occupant of one of the buildings said he had been involved in altercations with another.
Ford said Wednesday that after those residents shared their issues on May 8, staff contacted the property owner immediately, which seems to have produced results.
“The codes officer had actually been in touch with the property owner, and sent him a notice of violation, and the property owner has been very responsive,” said Ford.
“There were people living in different buildings, and a house that had multiple tenants in it. My understanding is, he has sent notices to those people that they’ve got to move out, because the township is going to come out and do inspections,” he said.
That inspection is still being scheduled, Ford said, but staff have reported that the property owner has brought a large trash container onto the site to clear off the loose objects and debris on the site.
“Once we were made aware of it, and made the property owner aware that there were code violations, that we assume he wasn’t aware of, he took very quick and very straightforward action,” Ford said.
“He didn’t linger, and we didn’t have to file citations. Things started happening as soon as he became aware of it. So that’s good news,” Ford said.
Towamencin’s supervisors next meet at 7:30 p.m. on June 12 at the township administration building, 1090 Troxel Road. For more information or meeting agendas and materials visit www.Towamencin.org.
