MORNING BIRD WALK AT NORRISTOWN FARM PARK
Tuesday, August 6: At8 a.m. Many birds begin their fall migration in the summer. Join park staff on a guided bird walk to see early migrants as well as resident species. Bring binoculars if you have them. Meet in parking lot #3. This free recreational program is appropriate for all ages. Preregistration is preferred. Thursday, August 15: At 7:45 p.m. Join a park ranger on a walk that will feature the full moon rising. MSS FEAST
Sunday, August 18: The 115th Feast in honor of La Madonna del Soccorso di Sciacca, Our Lady of Perpetual Help, sponsored by the M.S.S. Society, is being held on Sunday, August 18, 2019. The highlight of the feast is the Solemn Mass on Sunday, August 18, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. in Holy Saviour Church, East Main Street, followed by the Street Procession through the East End of Norristown, accompanied by the music of the Verdi Band. The festivities are in the air conditioned Saviour Hall (formerly Monsignor Delia Hall), on East Airy Street. It includes Italian food and music. Entertainment by DJ Paul Catagnus of Starlite Entertainment, Accordion Player Jerry Trecroce.

Since 1999 members of the Petrone Foundation have worked to honor the memory of their dear friend by helping those in need. Saturday, August 24: “Medicine in Ancient Egypt”. Dr. Stephen Phillips from the University of Pennsylvania will present on medicine in ancient Egypt. This program is open to teens 12+ and adults and is perfect for anyone who is interested in ancient cultures and medicine or who might be a fan of the popular Rick Riordan series, the Kane Chronicles. VALLEY FORGE: Washington Memorial National Carillon at Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge will present the 2019 Frank P. Law Summer Carillon Concert Series. The series starts on July 3rd and this year it features performers from Belgium, The Netherlands and the USA. Some of the carillonneurs are new to Valley Forge while some are returning favorites. The ever popular Irish Thunder Pipes & Drums bag pipe band performs again on August 14th (Music of the British Isles). The series concludes on August 28th. As always, all concerts are free and open to the public. These are hour-long outdoor concerts, so bring a blanket, lawn chair, snacks or dinner. Are you looking for a meaningful volunteer experience, which will impact the lives of adult learners and their families? If so, LCN needs you! LCN matches adult volunteer tutors with other adults needing help with reading, writing, math, GED preparation or English as a Second Language (ESL). Volunteer tutors attend a 1.5 hour Orientation and 12hour Tutor Training Workshop before being matched with a student. The pair is then expected to meet at a public place twice weekly for 1.5 hours per session for a minimum of six months or until the student goal is met. FREE HEALTH SCREENINGS
First Sundays of the month: Free health screenings at St. Patrick Church hall, DeKalb and Chestnut streets, Norristown, from noon to 3. The faculty and students from St. Joseph’s University Institute for bioethics, the Sisters of Mercy Health Services and many others have been key players in helping our parish with this important outreach as we have expanded the services provided. Several of our own parishioners have been trained as health promoters and do the screening with the help of others. We are continuing to expand the range of services to include referrals to clinics. The goals of this effort are to increase medical knowledge and care, to save lives and to enable better use of hospital resources. The focus is on the underserved populations near us, but we welcome all parishioners to come see what’s happening and see if there may be a role for you.

Join this monthly social group for Veterans and meet other area Veterans to discuss a variety of topics including history, personal experiences, current events, and more! Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Gary Kozick, will facilitate this social group. He has experience working in home care, assisted living, personal care and skilled nursing facilities.
