WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Bunting mentioned several plants for gardeners to look for during the show:

Lavender

Lavandula intermedia, or Lavender, which Bunting said is deer resistant and a “great herb for fragrance and silver foliage in the garden.”

Meadow Sage

Salvia nemerosa Caradonna, or Caradonna Meadow Sage, which Bunting said is deer resistant, a pollinator plant and a “wonderful perennial in the garden.”

Northern Maidenhair Fern

Adiantum pedatum ,or the Northern Maidenhair Fern, which Bunting said is a native woodland fern with fine textured foliage that requires shady conditions and is typically deer resistant.

Adam’s Needle

Yucca filamentos­a ‘Color Guard,’ or Adam’s Needle, is a drought tolerant, deer resistant plant that is good “for the gravel garden,” according to Bunting.

Delosperma

Delosperma ‘Beaufort West,’ which Bunting said is a drought tolerant “South African native [plant] with great flowers in the summer.”

Sage

Salvia officinali­s, or Sage, which Bunting said is a deer resistant, drought tolerant culinary herb.

Catmint

Nepeta racemosa ‘Walker’s Low,’ which Bunting said is a “diminutive selection of Catmint” that’s deer resistant and has fragrant, blue flowers.

Inkberry Holly

Ilex glabra ‘Strongbox,’ or Inkberry Holly, which Bunting said is a “great low, broad-leaved evergreen” that’s “grown for toleran[t] to wet conditions.”

Sassafras

Sassafras albidum, or Sassafras, which Bunting said is a “great native tree that is deer resistant” and has a “wonderful orange, red, yellow” color during fall.
