PW, PENNSBURY SET FOR SEMIFINAL

District playoffs heating up this week

Suburban One League American Conference champion Plymouth Whitemarsh is heading to the district final four for the second time in four years and the first time since 2017.

The top-seeded Colonials will face fourth-seeded Pennsbury in the District 1-6A semifinals Wednesday night at 8 p.m. at Souderton Area High School.

Plymouth Whitemarsh is coming off a 35-21 quarterfin­al win over SOL American rival Upper Dublin Saturday. The Colonials avenged two of their three losses this year at the hands of the Cardinals. Anna McTamney led PW with 16 points and Kaitlyn Flanagan

added 13.

Pennsbury got revenge of its own in the quarterfin­als. The SOL National champs beat Methacton, 43-34. The Warriors beat the Falcons in the final playback game last season to keep them out of the state tournament. Bella Arcuri led Pennsbury with 19 points and Ava Sciolla had 13.

These two Suburban One League powers haven’t met during the careers of any current players. The last matchup was in 2016 when Plymouth Whitemarsh won, 47-31.

The winner will advance to the championsh­ip and face the winner of Spring-Ford and Central Bucks West Saturday at Temple’s Liacouras Center. The loser will

Girls basketball District 1-6A

SPRING-FORD VS. CENTRAL

BUCKS WEST » The thirdseede­d Rams will face the second-seeded Bucks in the semifinals Wednesday night at Souderton at 6 p.m.

Spring-Ford got here by completing a four-game sweep over Owen J. Roberts, 48-39, in the second round and surviving Central Bucks East, 44-42, in the quarterfin­als.

West beat Neshaminy, 52-41, and North Penn, 6859, to reach the final four.

Skyler Sullivan led the Rams in scoring in the quarterfin­als with 14 points. Lucy Olsen added 13 and Abbey Boyer 11.

Jess Broskey paced the Bucks with 22 points against North Penn. Maddie Burke added 16 and Olivia Irons 14.

UPPER DUBLIN VS. METHACTON » The eighth-seed Cardinals will face the fifthseede­d Warriors at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Methacton High School.

Upper Dublin started its district postseason with a second-round win over Downingtow­n East, 48-39, before losing to Plymouth Whitemarsh, 35-21, in the quarterfin­als.

Methacton beat Souderton, 45-34, in the second round and lost to Pennsbury, 43-34, in the quarters.

Vargas scored 17 of Upper Dublin’s 21 points against PW. Nicole Timko paced Methacton with 13 points against Pennsbury.

NORTH PENN VS. CENTRAL

BUCKS EAST » The 10thseeded Knights will host the 11th-seeded Patriots Wednesday at 7 p.m.

North Penn won its first two playoff games, 64-53 over Boyertown and 44-35 over Garnet Valley, before losing to CB West, 68-59.

East picked up wins over CR South, 57-34, and Ridley, 56-54, before losing to Spring-Ford, 44-42.

These SOL Continenta­l rivals met twice during the regular season. Each team won at home. East came out on top, 52-44, in December while North Penn won, 6862, in January.

SOUDERTON VS. DOWNINGTOW­N EAST » The 12thseeded Indians will face No. 9 Downingtow­n East Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Downingtow­n East.

After beating Bensalem in the first round, Souderton lost to Methacton. They Indians beat West Chester Rustin, 48-39, in the first round of playbacks.

East opened the playoffs with a win over Upper Darby before losing to Upper Dublin. East handled Haverford, 51-36, in the first round of playbacks.

Erin Bohmueller and Mikaela Reese each had 10 points for Souderton in its win over Rustin and Olivia Schneider and Casey Harter each added nine.

The winner clinches a spot in the state tournament and will face the winner of Great Valley and Owen J. Roberts in the ninth-place game. The two losers will play for a spot in the state tournament. Follow Main Line Sports for live updates on Twitter, @MLineSport­s.

MOUNT ST. JOSEPH VS.

SPRINGFIEL­D (D) » The fifthseede­d Magic will face the top-seeded Cougars in the semifinals Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Harriton.

The Mount beat Harriton, 45-35, in the first round before knocking off Villa Maria, 47-41, in the quarterfin­als Friday night.

Springfiel­d handled In- terboro, 73-30, in the opener and got past Pottsgrove, 3631, in the quarters.

Grace Niekelski led the Magic Friday night with 17 points and Lauren Vesey added 15. MSJ went on a 6-0 run over the final 30 seconds to knock off its AACA rival.

JENKINTOWN VS. CHESTER CHARTER » The top-seeded

Drakes will face thirdseede­d Chester Charter for the championsh­ip Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Lower Moreland.

Jenkintown beat Morrisvill­e, 52-39, in the semifinals while Chester Charter took care of Faith Christian, 51-45.

FAITH CHRISTIAN VS. MORRISVILL­E » No. 2 Faith Christian will face No. 4 Morrisvill­e in the thirdplace game Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Faith Christian Academy.

FCA lost to Chester Charter in the semifinals, 51-45, while Morrisvill­e fell to Jenkintown, 52-39.

Boys basketball District 1-6A

CHELTENHAM VS. BENSALEM » The third-seeded Panthers take on the seventhsee­ded Owls in the semifinals Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Liacouras Center at Temple University.

Cheltenham routed Upper Darby, 83-57, after a first-round bye and beat Coatesvill­e, 68-61, in the quarterfin­als.

Bensalem earned a bye before slipping past SpringFord, 48-45, and beating Downingtow­n East, 51-43, in the quarters.

Jaelen McGlone led the Panthers with 22 points against Coatesvill­e and Justin Moore added 16.

METHACTON VS. CHESTER »

The top-seeded Warriors face the fourth-seeded Clippers in the semifinals Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at the Liacouras Center at Temple University.

After a first-round bye, Methacton hammered Council Rock South, 66-41, and Pennridge, 69-46.

Chester also had a firstround bye. It followed with wins over Haverford, 64-44, and Lower Merion, 54-46.

During Methacton’s win over Pennridge, senior Erik Timko joined teammate Jeff Woodward in the 1,000-point club. Woodward had 16 points and 21 rebounds in the game.

PENNRIDGE VS. LOWER MERION » The eighth-seeded Rams will face the fifthseede­d Aces at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night at Lower Merion High School.

After a first-round bye, Pennridge beat North Penn before losing to top-seeded Methacton, 69-46, in the quarterfin­als.

Lower Merion earned a first-round bye before beating Central Bucks East. In the quarterfin­als, the Aces lost to Chester, 54-46.

Pennridge, the Suburban One League champs, have already clinched a spot in the state playoffs. The Rams will look to get back on track while playing for seeding.

Trent Fisher was the only Ram in double figures against Methacton, hitting four three-pointers on his way to 18 points.

The winner will face the winner of Coatesvill­e and Downingtow­n East for District 1’s fifth seed Friday. The two losers will play for the seventh seed.

NORTHPENNV­S.CBEAST» The 24th-seeded Knights will take on the 12th-seeded Patriots at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at Central Bucks East High School.

North Penn will be facing its third straight Suburban One League opponent in the district playoffs. The Knights beat CB West in the first round and lost to Pennridge in the second round before besting Council Rock South, 69-51, in the first playback game.

CB East opened its district run with a win over William Tennent before losing to Lower Merion. The Patriots beat Haverford, 46-32, in their first playback game.

The Knights and Patriots played twice this season during SOL Continenta­l Conference play. CB East took both meetings, winning 70-47 at North Penn in December and 50-45 at home in January.

Matt Swanson led North Penn with 23 points in their most recent win over CR South. Josh Jones added 16 points and Mike Chaffee 12.

The winner of the game clinches a spot in the state tournament and will face the winner of Garnet Valley and Upper Darby in a seeding game Friday. The loser’s season is over.
