Based on an assessment of current conditions, in close cooperation with the Borough’s Emergency Management personnel, Lansdale Mayor Garry Herbert and Council President Denton Burnell have signed a temporary Declaration of Disaster emergency.

“Communities are built upon, and defined by, the challenges we overcome together,” said Mayor Garry Herbert in a statement from the borough.

“How we react now, in this moment, will have real implications on the outcome of this pandemic. For that reason, I am asking that everyone be extra cautious and to treat this event with the severity it deserves by adhering to the CDC recommendations. Together we will see this out and together we will share better days ahead,” he said.

In signing this declaration, the borough is enabled to take advantage of any state or federal funding opportunities should they become available. It allows the officials of Lansdale Borough to act as necessary to meet the current demands of this emergency response: by the employment of temporary workers, by the rental of equipment, by the purchase of supplies and materials and by entering into such contract and agreements for the performance of public work as may be required to meet the emergency, all without regard to those time-consuming procedures and formalities normally prescribed by law, mandatory constitution requirements excepted. To view the declaration, visit the borough’s website.

Borough officials encourage everyone to continue following the mandates provided by the federal government, state officials and Montgomery County officials.

In recent days, the borough has also posted and publicized information on the cancellation of the town’s 38th annual egg hunt scheduled for April 4, ways to pay utility bills online, closures of all playgrounds, basketball and tennis courts, fire safety tips for those remaining indoors, household cleaning advice, and updates on PECO personnel inspecting gas meters in and around town.
