The 2019-20 boys basketball season will be remembered for a long time.

It will either be looked back at as the season that was delayed during the state playoffs due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak or as the

“what-if” season that never finished.

There were plenty of other memorable moments packed into the three-and-a-half months before play came to a sudden halt.

Methacton and Pope John Paul II had their best seasons in school history. The Warriors won their third straight Pioneer Athletic Conference championship, first District 1-6A title and reached the state quarterfinals for the second consecutive season. PJP won its first District 1-4A title since the school opened in 2010.

Cheltenham lost its star point guard, Zahree Harrison, in the first game of the season, but still won the Suburban One League American Conference champion

ship. The Panthers reached the district championship game for the first time since 2005, when current head coach Patrick Fleury was on the team.

Dock Mennonite rolled to a District 1-2A championship with 20-point wins over Calvary Christian in the semifinals and Church Farm School in the title game.

None of these team accomplishments would have been possible without standout individual efforts. The players who made the biggest impact are recognized as members of the 2020 Reporter/ Times Herald/Montgomery Media All-Area Teams.

First Team

RAHSOOL DIGGINS, ARCHBISHOP WOOD » The Vikings junior guard earned First Team All-Philadelphia Catholic League honors this season and was named the league’s Most Valuable Player. Diggins averaged over 20 points per game to lead Archbishop Wood to the top of the PCL in the regular season and a semifinals appearance in the playoffs. Wood won the District 12-5A championship and reached the PIAA-5A state quarterfinals. JAELEN MCGLONE, CHELTENHAM » The 6-foot-4 Rider commit led Cheltenham to its best season in over a decade. The Panthers senior showed up when it mattered most – posting 22 points, 14 rebounds and six assists in a District 1-6A quarterfinal win over Coatesville and 24 points in the semifinals against Bensalem at Temple’s Liacouras Center. JORDAN LONGINO, GERMANTOWN ACADEMY » GA’s two-sport star is one of the most prolific scorers in the area, averaging nearly 23 points per game. Longino, a 6-foot-3 junior guard, can make defenses pay from all three levels. He has another year to build on his already-impressive resume.

ERIK TIMKO, METHACTON » Timko was at or near the top of the Pioneer Athletic Conference in all major offensive categories. His 20 points per game and 73 three-pointers helped the Warriors have their best season in school history. The senior joined the 1,000-point club during Methacton’s District 1-6A championship run.

JEFF WOODWARD, METHACTON » Woodward averaged a double-double for the District 1-6A champs with 13.7 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-10 Colgate commit was at the center — figuratively and literally — of the Warriors historic season.
