Interim CEO named at Brandywine Hospital
Tower Health has named Vikram Acharya as the interim CEO for Brandywine Hospital in Caln Township, Chester County. His new position was effective March 9.
Acharya steps in to replace former Brandywine CEO W. Jeffrey Hunt, who is taking on a new role as Tower Health vice president for academic affairs.
Acharya has served as chief operating officer for Brandywine Hospital since joining Tower Health in 2019. In that role, he has been responsible for all aspects of hospital operations and has been instrumental in driving numerous quality initiatives, according to a press release. In addition, he coaches secondary and post-secondary students pursuing a career in healthcare administration.
Acharya previously served as vice president, clinical and procedural services for University of Chicago Medicine; and as administrative director at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford.
He holds a master in business administration from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management in Evanston, Ill., a master of public health from Yale University in New Haven, Conn., and a Bachelor of Science degree in healthcare administration from Creighton University in Omaha, Neb.
In his new role, Hunt will assist Mark Martens, MD, senior vice president for academic affairs at Tower Health, in the expansion of the health system’s mission of academics and training for physicians. Brandywine Hospital is a nonprofit, 171-bed acute-care hospital, acquired by Tower Health (previously Reading Health System) in September 2017. It was one of five hospitals the health system acquired from Community Health Systems Inc. for an estimated $418 million. The other hospitals included in that transaction were: Pottstown Hospital in Pottstown, Phoenixville Hospital in Phoenixville, Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia and Jennersville Hospital in Penn Township in southern Chester County.
