Montco commissioners approve contracts for 2 bridges, other items
Despite increasing cases of COVID-19 locally, government continued to run with a Montgomery County Commissioners meeting on the eighth floor of One Montgomery Plaza in Norristown Thursday, March 19.
The commissioners unanimously approved four resolutions and 16 awards for contracts.
Of those contracts, a $1.05 million bid to replace the Davis Grove Road Bridge over Park Creek in Horsham Township was accepted. There were 65 companies who viewed the previously advertised request for proposals, to which five firms responded. The Montgomery County Assets and infrastructure Department, Roads and Bridges Division elected to approve RoadCon Inc. of Chester as the “lowest responsible bidder” for $1,050,731.10, according to the proposal.
Additionally, the same department recommended the authorization of a contract for $128,548.44 for the design and engineering services required to reconstruct “County Bridge 294,” which is on King Road over Valley Creek in Salford Township, according to the commissioners’ meeting packet. The initial request for proposals was reviewed by 69 firms, and 10 responses were received.
The county ended up choosing American Engineering Group, of Phoenixville for the contract.
As for additional pieces of legislation, the commissioners authorized Montgomery County Housing and Community Development to submit a grant application to participate in the Your Way Home Rapid Rehousing Project.
Carolyn Mayinja, senior manager of the housing and homeless programs for the Montgomery County Housing and Community Development, said the application would go to the state’s department of community and economic development
“These grant funds application would enable up to 75 people experiencing homelessness in Montgomery County to be rapidly rehoused,” Mayinja said.
The resolution authorizes an application for $200,000. Mayinja added that the county would match funding, which would be taken from “existing budgeted funds from [the] community development block grant program.”
The next Montgomery County Commissioners meeting is scheduled for April 2 in suite 800 of One Montgomery Plaza in Norristown.
