Man sent to prison for Plymouth shooting incident
NORRISTOWN » A Philadelphia man will be under court supervision for more than a decade on charges he fired gunshots at a man with whom he worked and who was driving along Butler Pike in Plymouth Township.
Ahmad Abdul Harris, 30, of the 400 block of East Mechanic Street, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 6½ to 13 years in a state correctional facility after he pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated assault and propelling bullets into an occupied vehicle in connection with a 12:46 a.m. July 21, 2019, incident along Butler Pike in Plymouth.
The sentence was imposed by Judge Thomas C. Branca.
By pleading guilty to aggravated assault, Harris admitted that he attempted to cause bodily injury to the victim with a deadly weapon, specifically a gun.
The investigation began when Plymouth Township police responded the 2000 block of Butler Pike for a report of shots fired. The caller reported he observed Harris firing gunshots at him as he drove southbound on the roadway.
“(The victim) described a grassy berm where the shooter, known at ‘Mr. Ahmad,’ was last seen,” Plymouth Township Detective Jeffrey McGee alleged in the arrest affidavit.
The victim told police that he observed Harris trying to flag him down and that when he pulled over he “heard two gunshots being fired,” according to the criminal complaint.
“(The victim) said that he looked in his rear view mirror and saw what he believes were four additional flashes that he immediately recognized as gunfire. (The victim) was certain that the person that was firing the gun at him was Harris,” McGee alleged in the arrest affidavit.
Investigators found three spent 9mm shell casings in the roadway and said the victim’s vehicle had “a bullet hole in the rear hatch.” The victim was not injured during the shooting.
Court documents did not reveal a motive for the shooting but indicated Harris and the victim worked at a nearby restaurant where the victim was a supervisor.
