Roundtable offers business information
June 25 event will focus on workforce development
POTTSTOWN Montgomery County Community College’s Workforce Development Division will host a Business & Industry Virtual Roundtable Discussion for business owners.
The event, scheduled for Thursday, June 25 from 10 to 11:45 a.m. is part of the college’s regular business and industry outreach specifically focusing on talent development issues, according to Greg Skelley, executive director, workplace development at Montgomery County Community College.
The discussion — an interactive Zoom video conference — will feature several speakers sharing information about resources available to help Montgomery County businesses. There is no charge to participate, but attendees are asked to register for the Zoom link at https://calendar.mc3.edu/event/business—industry-virtual-roundtable-discussion/.
The goal of Thursday’s event is to provide business, industry and community groups with critical information, as well as access to resources and economic and workforce development opportunities, according to Skelley. The roundtable will provide them with “access to critical county leaders, business and industry professionals providing data-driven benchmarking and implementation of best practices.”
“This is also an opportunity for MCCC’s Workforce Development Division to promote the credential-and degree-bearing opportunities needed in a COVID-19 environment,” Skelley said in an emailed response to questions.
During the event, Skelley will lead a discussion on talent development during COVID-19 — a discussion that will feature Tom Vendetti, statewide director of WEDnet.PA. Vendetti will discuss the status of the program and changes due to the pandemic.
The Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania (WEDnetPA) was created to help companies across the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania become more competitive — locally,
nationally and internationally — by updating and improving the skills of their employees to meet specific company needs, according to information on the organization’s website.
WEDnetPA’s alliance of educational providers includes state system universities, community colleges and other educational providers. Each provider, known as a WEDnetPA partner, serves as the point of contact for businesses accessing workforce training funds.
Other speakers will include Dave Zellers, Montgomery County Director of Commerce and Jennifer Butler, executive director MontcoWorks/Montgomery County Workforce Development Board, who will discuss additional resources and opportunities available to help Montgomery County businesses; and Dr. Anthony Valente, chief medical officer, Lehigh Valley Healthcare Network, who will discuss topics associated with COVID-19.
In addition, representatives from two Montgomery County businesses will discuss best practices implemented by their companies to remain operational as essential businesses during the pandemic. Shelly Stockmal, community leader of Victory Bank and Christine Mobley, director of talent management of Dorman Products Inc. will be part of the discussion.
Skelley added that there is no limit to the number of registrants for the discussion, and attendees can register “right up into the beginning of the event.”
