Gular earns modified victory at Grandview Speedway

Former track champion Mike Gular used a restart pass on the 10th lap to capture the 30-lap modified feature Saturday night at Grandview Speedway.

Gular took the lead from Justin Grim and stayed in front the rest of the way to earn his sixth career win at Grandview. Grim took second for his best finish at the one-third mile clay oval in Bechtelsville.

Scott Kohler earned his first career win in the 25-lap sportsman feature and Adam Carberry won his first race at Grandview in the 25-lap URC Sprint feature.

In the modified race, a 12car tangle brought out an early caution and engine problems by Kyle Weiss brought out another.

Grim held the lead through those two restarts. But after another multi-car tangle brought out a third caution, Gular took the lead on the restart and never looked back.

Grim and Jeff Strunk battled for second place, allowing Gular to build his lead. Grim held off Strunk for second. Mike Lisowski was fourth and Craig Von Dohren fifth.

Rounding out the top 10 were Louden Reimert, Ryan Watt, Dylan Swinehart, Clay Butler and Craig Whitmoyer.

In the sportsman race, Kohler inherited the lead when rookie Dakota Kohler pulled into the infield with mechanical problems when his car wouldn’t re

fire prior to one of the numerous 17th lap restarts. Scott Kohler immediately opened daylight when the race finally went green and won by a sizable margin over second-place finisher Nate Brinker.

Mark Kemmerer finished third followed by Brandon Edgar and Chris Esposito.

Sixth through 10th were Brad Arnold, Jimmy Leiby, Kyle Smith, Ryan Beltz and Decker Swinehart.

Carberry took the lead on a 10th-lap restart in the URC Sprint feature. Carberry led the rest of the way with Paulie Colagiovanni second, followed by Derek Locke, Ryan Taylor and Josh Weller.

Troy Betts, Davie Franek, Matt Tanner, Tyler Ross and Curt Michael completed the top 10.
