Quinn Marett came through in a pivotal fourth inning Tuesday night, knocking a single to right to put HatfieldTowamencin in front for good.

The sixth inning provided an encore for Marett.

“I was just trying to put the bat on the ball because the last couple games, the bat’s been kind of cold,” the leadoff hitter said.

Marett’s towering double to deep center put the finishing touches on a five-RBI performance, as he helped the Titans pull away to a 9-5 victory over Plymouth Whitemarsh in the opening round of the Bux-Mont Connie Mack A Playoffs at School Road Park.

“We delivered,” said Marett, who was 2-for-4 with a run scored along with his five RBI, “so hopefully we can keep this going. It was a good start.”

The playoffs resumed Wednesday night, back at School Road Park and Hostelley Field.

The second-seeded Titans overcame a 3-0 deficit to No. 7 PW, keyed by two big innings.

The fourth is when the offense came to life.

“It changed the game,” Marett said.

PW starter Dylan Robinson had blanked the Titans in the first three frames, but they caught up to him in the fourth.

Hatfield-Towamencin drew three walks in the inning, and Chuck Wetzel’s flare to center scored two to bring the Titans within 3-2.

Moments later with the bases loaded, Marett singled in a pair to push the Titans into the lead at 4-3.

“I think we can all put the ball over the fence if we barrel one off,” Marett said of the Titan offense.

Hatfield-Towamencin padded its lead in the sixth.

Marett’s double plated three, widening the gap to 7-3, and Justin Egner followed with a double moments later to stretch the lead to 9-3.

The Colonials cut into the lead in the seventh, thanks to RBI hits from Lincoln Sharpe and Nick DeLucca, but Wetzel was able to polish off a complete-game performance. He allowed five runs - just two earned - off of seven hits while striking out two with one hit batter.

The Titans were solid on the mound and clutch at the plate.

“If we keep playing the way we’ve been playing, we can definitely put it together,” Marett said. Hatfield-Towamencin 9, PW 5
