Dock girls win District 1-A cross country title

DISTRICT 1 CHAMPIONSH­IPS » In the 3A race on Monday at Tyler State Park, North Penn took 6th overall with 199 points. Karl Schafstell­er led the way with a 28th-place showing in 17:31.4. The top local performer was Hatboro-Horsham’s Devon Comber in 16:24.4, which was good enough for 2nd place. For the girls, Pennridge took 7th with 194 points, while WC Henderson won the title with 93 points. Ashley Gordon led the way for the Rams with a 4th-place showing in 19:37.2. Caitlin Burmester set the pace for Upper Dublin with a 20thplace showing in 20:36..4. Other solid local contributo­rs were Pennridge’s Nora Ritting (33rd, 21:09.3), Pennridge’s Maria Lera-Lozano (34th, 21:10.7) and Wissahicko­n’s Lindsey Frenia (45th, 21:25.1). In the Class A race, Dock took home the title with 42 points. Sydney Putera placed second for Dock (22:19.2), which got a sixth from Celeste Derstine and a ninth from Isa Rodriguez. NHS, the secondplac­e team with 61 points, saw Nina Meiler finish third and Shannon Herbert seventh. PJP II’s Gianna Cagliola ran the Tyler State Park course in strong fashion, winning the girls Class AA race. Her 20:35.3 clocking was exactly 30 seconds faster than the 21:05:5 recorded by Claudia Campiscian­o for Merion Mercy Academy, the bracket’s team champion with three Top 10 finishers.

GMA 3, UPPER MORELAND 1» Samantha Berish collected a hat trick as the Monarchs picked up the win on Monday in the first round of the District 1-2A Tournament. Halle Coller and Ella Koschineg picked up assists, while Grace Galbreah made eight saves in net. Kathryn Murrow scored the lone goal for the Golden Bears. DOCK1,DELCOCHRIS­TIANO » The Pioneers picked up the win in the District 1-A Tournament on Monday in frigid conditions. Peyton Scialanca started the scoring at the 15:58 mark off a corner kick, lofting the ball into the box where a Dock defender scored an own goal. The Pioneers will play for the district title Thursday againt Calvary Christian.

CB EAST 2, NORTH PENN 1 » The Knights fell short in the first round of the District 1-3A Touranment on Monday. Erin O’Donnell opened up the scoring for North Penn, but its lead was brief as CB East scored on two corners in the first quarter. From then the game remained scoreless as East held on for the win. Midfielder­s Riley O’Donnell, Kerry O’Donnell, Maddie Waldspurge­r and Megan Albert had great games for the Knights. Mallory Stowell finished with six saves for North Penn.

METHACTON 2, PERK VALLEY 0 » Bayla Plower and Bene Catoia provided the scoring as the Warriors won their District 1-3A opener on Monday. Madison Noh picked up an assist for Methacton.

UPPERPERK5,UPPERDUB-LIN0» The Cardinals were bounced in the first round of the District 1 playoffs. Scoring for Upper Perk were Luciani Carpenter, Bella Carpenter, Kilene Goach, Margot May and Cindy Crawson. Dara Fishman had six saves in net for Upper Dublin. The Cardinals finished the season at 6-5.

ARCHBISHOP CARROLL 10, LC 1 » Carroll won big on its Senior Night over the Crusaders. Senior goalies Courtney Keith and Grace DiMascio combined for the win and stopped 4 shots between them for Archbishop Carroll. Senior Julia Kinsgury scored four goals and senior Nicole Pawlec added two more for Carroll. Senior Carleigh Connors also had a goal and senior Karli Dougherty chipped in with three assists. Lauren Prello scored the lone goal for LC, while Erin Herrod made 13 saves in net.

SPRINGFIEL­D 9, JENKINTOWN 1 » The Spartans won big in the 1-A semifinals on Monday. Anya Kochanowic­z led the way for Springfiel­d with five goals,

SOUDERTON 1, WC EAST 1 » The Indians fell in the first round of District 1-4A action, losing 5-4 on PKs. The Indians led 1-0 at halftime behind a goal from Dillon Barbieri in the 8th minute, assisted by Brody Emery. Aidan McClure added 8 saves in net for Souderton. DELCO CHRISTIAN 1, DOCK 0» The Pioneers dropped the District 1-A semifinal battle on Monday. Dock had a number of opportunit­ies in the game with some quality shots on goal, but in the end it was a scrappy goal down in the box by Cole Levis that was the deciding goal for Delco. Reynaldo Ramos finished with 9 saves on 10 shots for the Pioneers (7-6).
