La Salle takes 2nd in state

The La Salle College High School boys cross country team took 2nd place in the PIAA 3A Championsh­ips Saturday at Hershey, finishing 25 points behind champion North Allegheny. Drew and Zachary Brill set the pace for the Explorers, finishing 4th and 9th respective­ly. Max Manganiell­o was 12th in 17:11 and Michael Lombari took 20th in 17;35. Patrick Coyle chipped in with a 29th-place showing in 18:07 for La Salle.

The Dock girls took 7th in the state at the Class 2A Championsh­ips on Saturday, finishing with 151 points in Hershey.

Pacing the Pioneers was Isi Rodriguez with a 16thplace showing in 22:47, followed by Sydney Putera in 17th in 22:50. Also for Dock, Celeste Derstine took 25th in 23:07, Sara Kennel was 43rd in 24:31 and Maddy Churches took 50th in 25:13.

In Boys Class A, Jenkintown took home the title with 44 points. Pacing the Drakes was senior Luke Miller in 3rd with a time of 17:04 and Carter Geer in 4th at 17:05. Also for Jenkintown, Oliver Michell was 8th in 17:18 and Aiden Michell 10th in 17:26. In the 2A boys race, Wood’s Gary Martin took home the title in a sparkling 16:12, outdistanc­ing the field by 25 seconds.

Clare Hayden/Jordan Grey 6-0, 6-0 and then knocked off State College’s Quiana Guo and Catelyn Junac 6-0, 6-0. They were scheduled to play the finals Saturday at 3:30 against Peters Township’s Kat Wang and Marra Bruce.

GMA 2, VILLA MARIA 1 » Hannah Griffin and Samantha Berish provided the goals as the Monarchs rallied for the win in the District 1-3A semifinals on Friday. Cassidy Palazzo picked up an assist, while Grace Galbreath made 13 saves in net.
