Justice center contracts approved
NORRISTOWN » The Montgomery County’s Board of Commissioners authorized nearly $60,000 in a series of contracts related to the construction of the Montgomery County Justice Center.
The contracts were narrowly approved in a 2-1 vote during the Nov. 19 meeting, with Commissioner Joe Gale dissenting. Gale has been vocally critical of the project’s cost during previous meetings, and he asked for a roll call vote to reflect his opposition.
A $34,040 agreement between the county’s Assets and Infrastructure Department and Integrated Security Systems LLC., of Harleysville, covers “access control of two doors and five cameras at One
Montgomery Plaza” to provide “surveillance” and after hours “site security” during the justice center construction project.
According to the contract, “equipment and installation services” were made available through the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s cooperative purchasing program.
Montgomery County leaders also approved revisions to two existing contracts.
The county’s Assets and Infrastructure Department needed $15,000 more for “sampling and lab analysis of surface dust in areas previously confirmed to contain asbestos containing materials.”
Officials first approved a $65,795 contract with GZA Geoenvironmental Inc., of Norwood, Mass., in October 2019, according to the contract award.
Over the course of the project, the commissioners authorized several revisions to the contract for geotechnical engineering services with the Massachusettsbased firm totaling more than $46,000.
With the latest $15,000 request during the most recent commissioners’ meeting, the revised figure now stands at $112,251, according to the agreement.
An additional $10,500 was needed for work on the One Montgomery Plaza Facade project, according to the agreement. An initial $633,586 contract with Norr Design Inc., of Philadelphia, was approved for “architectural and engineering services.”
Since then, the commissioners authorized four amendments to the existing contract totaling more than $1 million, according to the agreement. The most recent proposed figures were for “wayfinding signage design, documentation and construction administration services for the temporary courts on the ninth and 10th floors of One Montgomery Plaza.”
With the revision, the updated figures now amount to $1,677,043, according to the contract.
The next Montgomery County Board of Commissioners meeting is scheduled for Dec. 17.
