Wawa hiring 5,000 full-, part-time workers
Spring hiring campaign ‘fueled by new growth’
The convenience store chain is looking to hire lots of new employees over the next couple of months.
Wawa is looking to hire lots of new employees over the next couple of months — 5,000 new employees, in fact.
The convenience store chain has announced its first hiring campaign of the year, to fill openings across its 650 Mid-Atlantic region and 210 Florida stores. The annual hiring campaign is expected to last through Memorial Day weekend.
The new full- and part-time positions are the result of seasonal and store growth across Wawa’s operating area and will fill storelevel customer-service, supervisory and management-level positions, according to the company.
The hiring effort “furthers Wawa’s overall commitment to provide job opportunities in local communities that can lead to longlasting careers in a trusted, growing company which welcomes diverse backgrounds and experiences,” a press release stated.
“At Wawa, we have made a commitment to providing needed products and services and our associates have enabled us to play an essential role in our communities during the past year. As we continue to grow our stores, services and product offer, we are thrilled to announce a number of new jobs and advancement opportunities for our associates,” Stephanie Capaccio, director of People Team Operations, said in the release.
Wawa plans to continue its expansion in 2001, with the addition of 61 new stores.
“Beyond adding new stores in 2021, Wawa has exciting future plans that provide our communities with more convenience than ever before. And, anyone who visits Wawa knows that it’s our incredible associates who drive our business and make Wawa so special,” Capaccio added.
The chain also continues to provide customers with new options for access including delivery, curbside pick-up, mobile ordering and testing drive-thrus.
In February, Wawa expanded its food options, adding a hamburger and fries to its offerings chain-wide, following months of market testing of a variety of diner options at locations within the chain’s geographic footprint. Wawa’s Angus burger is customizable with a choice of cheese, fresh toppings, sauce and bacon and is available after 4 p.m. daily.
Wawa also rolled out Heat and Eat meals in 2020 — prepared meals customers can pick up in the store without placing an order.
Individuals interested in career opportunities at Wawa are encouraged to apply online at www.wawa.com/careers.
Full- and part-time Wawa associated enjoy competitive salaries, flexible schedules and, when eligible, health benefits and tuition reimbursement opportunities. In addition, Wawa offers a $75 incentive for associates that receive the COVID-19 vaccine. New hires in certain positions will be offered a bonus of $125 starting April 1, 2021 and ending June 15, 2021. The bonus will be paid after an associate’s 90th day of employment.
Those associates who stay with Wawa longer term can participate in Wawa’s Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), according to the company. The ESOP is provided to associates at no cost in addition to other core benefits including a 401k match. Wawa is almost 40% owned by associates through the ESOP.
“With more than 20,000 participants, Wawa’s ESOP ranks as one of the top 10 largest ESOPs in the country,” the press release stated.
Wawa has more than 37,000 associates at its stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, Florida and Washington, D.C.
