Recorder of Deeds Office promotes vet ID program

NORRISTOWN >> Veterans will have the opportunit­y to take part in a program offering discount identifica­tion cards upcoming events hosted by the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Office.

“I am excited to get back out on the road with our Veterans’ Discount ID Program,” Recorder of Deeds Jeanne Sorg said. “After the past year kept everyone home and this program grounded, we are eager to get back out in the community and bring this program directly to veterans.”

Veterans should bring their military discharge papers and photo identifica­tion to the following events:

• 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26, at a Senior Fair hosted by State Rep. Napoleon Nelson (D154th dist.), located at Congregati­on K.I, 8339 Old York Road, in Elkins Park

• 9-11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, at a Senior Fair hosted by State Rep. Steve Malagari (D-53rd dist.), located at Trinity Evangelica­l Lutheran Church, 1000 W. Main St., in Lansdale

• 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, at a Mobile Veteran ID Event, hosted by State Rep. Matt Bradford (D-70th dist.), located at his office, 750 E. Johnson Highway, in Norristown.

As part of the Veterans Discount ID program, veterans can record their military discharge paperwork (DD214 or NGB22) with the Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Office. The documents are recorded in perpetuity in the office’s secure database.

“A DD214 is the most important document a veteran holds,” Sorg said in a statement. “Recording it with my office gives the veteran and their family members instant access should they need it.”

Participat­ing veterans will then receive a Discount ID card, which provides discounts at more than 500 Montgomery County businesses.

“I am thankful for all the businesses in Montgomery County who have committed to showing their gratitude towards our veterans through discounts on goods and services,” Sorg said in a statement.

The Montgomery County Recorder of Deeds Office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and is located at 425 Swede St., Suite 303, in Norristown. For more informatio­n, visit www.montcopa.org/rod.
