Only 1 Democrat prevails in townships, boroughs

Republican candidates appear to have won all except one of the seats on municipal government in the Souderton area elections this year, according to unofficial counts on the Montgomery County website early in the afternoon the day after Election Day.

At that point, all the in-person votes had been counted, with some mailin votes still to be counted.

Souderton

In Souderton, Independen­t Dan Yocum, who was on both the Democratic and Republican ballots, was the only candidate on the ballot for mayor. He received 1,334 votes. Current Mayor John Reynolds did not run for reelection this year.

In ward one, where the race was for two four-year seats on Souderton Borough Council, Republican Matthew Dinenna had 281 votes and fellow-Republican Richard Walczak had 277. On the Democratic ballot, Richard Detwiler had 253 and Richard Kelly had 225.

In ward two, where the race was for one four-year seat on Souderton Borough Council, Republican Tracy W. Burke had 294 votes and Democrat Michael Pipe had 205.

In ward three, where the race was for two fouryear seats on Souderton Borough Council, Republican­s Courtnee L. Wampole and Edward M. Huber had 245 and 238 votes, respective­ly. On the Democratic ballot, Ginny Vandenburg and Daniel Bencsik each had 191.

Telford

In Telford, Republican Jerry Guretse, who was unopposed on the ballot for a four-year term as mayor, had 447 votes in the Montgomery County portion of the borough. Unofficial counts on the Bucks County website for the Bucks County portion of the borough showed another 423 votes. Current Mayor David Snook did not run for re-election this year.

With three four-year seats on Telford Borough Council up for election, the top vote getters were Republican­s Miles Arnott and Emiline I. Weiss and incumbent Democrat John A. Taylor, the only Democrat to win a seat on a Souderton area municipal board this year. Arnott and Weiss each had 347 votes from the Montgomery County portion of the borough. Weiss had 328 votes from the Bucks County portion and Arnott had 324. Taylor had 275 votes from Montgomery County and 244 from Bucks County. Democrat Nicole Spiese had 240 votes from Montgomery County and 233 from Bucks County. Democrat Bill Gottshall had 238 votes from Montgomery County and 226 from Bucks County.

In the race for a two-year term on Telford Borough Council, Republican Jeffrey Maxwell had 360 votes in Montgomery County and 333 in Bucks County, while Libertaria­n John Waldenberg­er had 158 in Montgomery County and 135 in Bucks County.

Lower Salford

In Lower Salford, where the race was for a six-year term on Lower Salford Township Board of Supervisor­s, Republican David Scheuren had 2,524 votes and Democrat Gail Comden had 1,793.

Franconia

In Franconia, Incumbent Republican­s Jill Halteman, who was also on the Democratic ballot, and Robert H. Nice were the only candidates on the ballot for two six-year terms on the Franconia Township Board of Supervisor­s. Halteman had 2,837 votes and Nice had 2,708.

Salford

In Salford Township, incumbent Republican James Myers was the only candidate on the ballot for a sixyear term on the Salford Township Board of Supervisor­s. He had 723 votes.

Upper Salford

In Upper Salford, incumbent Republican Richard Sacks, who was also on the Democratic ballot, was the only person on the ballot for a six-year term on the Upper Salford Township Board of Supervisor­s. He had 863 votes.
