Souderton Community Pool swims into season
More people are diving into Souderton Community Pool.
“Membership sales have been remarkably strong the past 15 days,” Borough Manager Mike Coll said at Souderton Borough Council’s June 20 work session meeting.
While the figures weren’t yet tallied, there may have been as much as $70,000 of new pool membership sales during that period, he said.
“Today, we started swim lessons, so it’s the first time we’re bringing swim lessons back,” Coll said. “Party rentals are coming back.”
The Souderton pool, at Wile Avenue and Reliance Road, was closed in 2020 because of COVID. It reopened in 2021, but swim lessons and party rentals were not offered in 2021.
Last year, when Quakertown’s pool was closed, some people or families that would normally go there came to Souderton’s pool, Coll said. This year, Quakertown is back open, but Towamencin’s pool is closed, so Souderton appears to be getting some of those that would have gone to Towamencin, he said.
Pool information, including membership registration, is available at the soudertonborough.org website.
In other matters at the meeting:
• Work will move forward to create and review a noise ordinance for the borough, which currently does not have one.
“Let’s move that along,” council President Tracy Burke said.
• It’s getting harder each year to find the live trees used for the borough’s holiday tree lighting, Souderton Connects Manager Christina DiVergigelis said.
There has been discussion of changing to a snaptogether tree, she said.
“It would have lights on it. It would be fully decorated. It will look nice in the day and at night,” DiVergigelis said.
There has also been discussion of moving the tree from its current location in the borough parking lot on Main Street at Hillside Avenue, she said.
Univest is planning to remove its fountain at W. Broad Street and Washington Avenue and replace it with a park-like setting, she said. The tree could be placed there, she said, but because of supply chain issues, the Univest work will not be done this year. Another possible location for the tree would be in Souderton Community Park, she said.
Council members said they would prefer to wait to make a decision on purchasing the proposed tree until it could be included in next year’s budget and further details are worked out.
“I think it would be a big hit to have this tree in the town, but I don’t think now is the time,” council member Donna Rogers said.
