Shearer named Co-Pitcher of Year
North Penn rising senior earns honor after dominant season in circle
Julia Shearer continues to collect prestigious Keystone State softball honors.
Shearer and Beaver’s Payton List were named 2022 Overall Pennsylvania Pitchers of the Year while the North Penn rising senior was one of three Knights to receive Class 6A honors as the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association (PaHSSBCA) announced its allstate teams Thursday.
Shearer at pitcher and Brie Wilmot at first base were both selected to the 6A first team while Annabelle Smink was a secondteam pick at third base for North Penn, reached the PIAA-6A semifinals and won its first District 1 title since 2012.
Souderton’s Riley York and Kayley York and Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Lauryn Kane were also Class 6A selections. Riley York was a first-team pick at outfield while Kayley York and Kane both earned second-team honors at shortstop and third base, respectively.
In Class 4A, Lower Moreland’s Liz Neeld was a first-team selection at shortstop with Gwynedd Mercy’s Madison Seidel receiving second team honors at pitcher.
Shearer, who on June 9 was named the 2022 Gatorade Pennsylvania Softball Player of the Year, and Wilmot are both firstteam selections for the second consecutive season. Shearer earned the honor last year at outfield.
Taking over as pitcher after the graduation of Mady Volpe — who in 2021 was the PaHSSBCA Overall Pa. Player of the Year and the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year as NP won the PIAA 6A title — Shearer went 25-2 with 18 shutouts in the circle with a 0.26 earned-run average and 299
