Bachman back where it started

North Penn grad enjoying his coaching role with Lansdale

LANSDALE » From swimmer to coach — and don’t forget resident gangsta “wrapper,” indicated by the tee shirt he sported for the “Christmas in July” theme Thursday night, Max Bachman has excelled in many roles for the Lansdale swim team.

“I swam on this team since I was five years old, so this team’s been in my life for a long time,” Bachman said. “So it’s good to be able to coach the kids and be on the other side of things.”

Bachman, a standout at North Penn and now a rising sophomore swimmer at West Chester University,

is savoring his first year as an assistant coach for the Lansdale Frogs.

Lansdale took on Pennridge Thursday night in Bux-Mont action, and there were smiles and cheers — and a whole lot of green — everywhere.

“We got a great turnout here — for both teams — so it’s just fun to cheer on the kids,” said Bachman.

There were plenty of familiar sights and sounds.

The former Knight said he savored his experience growing up at the pool on Whites Road.

“Out of all the teams in our league, Lansdale is always kind of the smallest, but we show the most heart,” he said. “We always have the loudest cheers, and if you look at them tonight, there’s gonna be a lot of Lansdale kids lined up, cheering each other on. I like the camaraderi­e of it all. That’s why I decided to be a coach too.”

As a freshman this past year at West Chester, Bachman was a point scorer for the Golden Rams and helped them capture the Pennsylvan­ia State Athletic Conference title.

This summer, he’s back with coach Jeff Faikish, head coach of Lansdale and also Bachman’s coach in his days at NP.
