Pennridge’s season comes to a close

Postseason ride ends against Northern Valley

A postseason joy ride for Pennridge came to a close Friday night, against hard-throwing Chase Moyer and Northern Valley.

“He was probably the best pitcher we’ve seen all year,” Pennridge coach Mitch Keating said. “He’s definitely the best we’ve seen here at the tournament. We were trying to work his counts to get him out but he was throwing strikes and you can’t work counts when somebody’s throwing strikes. He was unbeatable tonight for us.”

With the 4-0 victory, Northern Valley advances to a mustwin game Saturday morning at 11 against Montgomery, which fell 6-3 to Moore on Friday night. Pennridge saw its run come to an end, but it was quite a run.

“We didn’t expect to be here,” Keating said. “We got in as the six seed and we played better than we had all year. We got hot and had a great run. So I’m proud of the kids.”

Robert Pavlek, Caleb Keating and Noah Keating each drew walks for Pennridge, but that was all Moyer allowed.

The lefty was in command from start to finish, not allowing a hit in his six innings of work. He racked up 11 strikeouts in the complete-game victory. The game was called after five and a half innings after Pennridge had a player ejected and did not have a replacemen­t.

Moyer struck out the side in the top of the sixth to finish things off strong.

It was a tough night but a memorable season for Pennridge.

“I’m happy for the 16-year-olds who have been playing for four years,” said Mitch Keating. “To have this experience — come up here, beautiful stadium, beautiful weather most of the week…We got
