Alan Evan Young
Alan Evan Young of Lansdale, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 6th 2022 , in
Ft. Myers Florida. Born in Delaware County, he was the youngest of three children of Manuel and Thelma Jane (Hood) Young. He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Nancy J. (Gehring) Young, and his two loving children, Maggie E. Young, and Steven A. Young (Teresa), and two grandchildren, Cameron and Lilly. He is also survived by brother James, sister Dale, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alan was a 1968 graduate of North Penn High School, he then attended the University of South Florida in Tampa. In the 80s he opened and operated Youngie’s Hoagies & Cheesesteaks on Sumneytown Pike in Kulpsville. He then moved into sales in the food equipment industry, and then insurance.
Alan and his wife had their first date at a Phillies game in 1978, and both remained lifelong Philadelphia sports fans. His love of baseball continued when he coached his son’s Lansdale Little League team, and rebuilt a new field on Moyer Rd. The ceremonial opening of the field was attended by the Philly Phanatic and highlighted by his son’s leadoff homerun.
He also supported his daughter’s youth swimming career, carpooling with other families for years and attending all her meets. He was well known at Lansdale swim meets as the 50/50 fund raiser.
Alan’s favorite pastimes were playing golf, visiting nature parks, playing with his Boxer dogs, doing
crossword puzzles, and traveling to spring training in Clearwater. Throughout their marriage, Alan continued to follow the latest developments and innovations to help his wife combat MS.
Since attending college he yearned to return to the sunshine state. Seven years ago he was able to fulfill that dream by purchasing a home in Ft. Myers on a pond and golf course to enjoy picturesque surroundings.
His greatest joys in life were his children, and more recently his two grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 20, 2022 from 2:00-4:00pm at Huff & Lakjer Funeral Home, 701 Derstine Ave., Lansdale PA 19446. Burial will be private.
