McGeehan’s goal, assist help North Penn top Pennridge

FIELD HOCKEY

NORTH PENN 3, PENNRIDGE 1>> Grace McGeehan had a goal and assist as North Penn opened its season with a win as the Knights’ SOL Colonial Division contest with host Pennridge was completed as inclement weather rolled through the area Tuesday night.

McGeehan gave NP a 1-0 lead at 4:01 in the first quarter before Keira Horensky pulled the Rams even at 14:04 in the second quarter. Ashleigh Barwis, however, put the Knights back ahead with 3:48 left in the half off a McGeehan assist. Caleigh Sperling gave North Penn a two-goal advantage with her goal at 8:01 in the fourth.

Pennridge goalies Maia Machado and Molly Bross combined for 10 saves. NP goalies Kiera Holt and Kara Stringello­w totaled three saves.

WISSAHICKO­N 9, HATBOROHOR­SHAM 1 >> Caroline Kirkpatric­k had two goals and two assists, and Riley Ball scored three times as Wissahicko­n cruised to an SOL Liberty win over host Hatboro-Horsham.

Kayla Mullin finished with two goals and an assist while Ella Hummel collected two assists for the Trojans (2-0, 1-0), who scored four times in both the first and second quarters.

Sophia Havrilla and Cait Connaghan also scored for Wiss, while Havilla, Kendall Crowley, Kayla Pak and Julia Wells each had an assist. Meredith Walsh made two saves for the Trojans while Ava Fell had one save. SPRINGFIEL­D-MONTCO

9, WILLIAM TENNENT 0 >> Norah Colin, Emma Yoder and Hailey Lesniak helped Springfiel­d roll to an SOL Freedom victory in its season opener.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

MOUNT ST. JOSEPH 3, CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0 >> Mount St. Joseph won a close first set before taking the next two to sweep host Central Bucks West 25-23, 25-14, 2516 in a nonleague match.

For West, Alexis Barklage had 13 kills while Alexa Lee finished with 10 digs. Erin Ferello had seven assists, and Caroline Taylor collected six aces and three digs.

UPPER MERION 3, STRATH HAVEN 0 >> The Vikings avenged a last-season loss by sweeping the Panthers in three sets 25-21, 25-22, 25-20.

Sophia Schweikert and Sydney Bright had 10 and nine kills, respective­ly, while Yalerie Acevado added six kills to go with 11 digs. Julia Giammarco keyed the defense with 12 digs, followed by Schweikert’s 11. Schweikert led the team with three aces, while Despina Kortidis led the team in blocks. Setter Caitlyn Daywalt had 24 assists.

ABINGTON 3, PENNRIDGE 1 >> Kenya Lucas had 19 kills as Abington claimed a four-set SOL nonconfere­nce victory.

Mary Carter dished out 28 assists for the Galloping Ghosts while Liz Tanis made five blocks.

BISHOP SHANAHAN 2, POPE JOHN PAUL II 0 >> Pope John Paul II goalkeeper Jason Krum had four saves as the Golden Panthers were shut out in the nonleague matchup.

GIRLS TENNIS

WISSAHICKO­N 6, UPPER DUBLIN 1 >> Wissahicko­n swept singles in its SOL Liberty victory with YiYi Huang defeating Upper Dublin’s Ciara Peyton at first singles 6-4, 6-3.

The Trojans’ Saachi Mehta won second singles over Eva Yang 6-2, 6-2, while Nicolette Agassi bested the Cardinals’ Kaelin Penna at third singles 6-1, 6-2.

Upper Dublin’s lone win came at fourth doubles as Raegan Penna and Megan Quan defeated Katherine Kooman and Lexi Frutkin 6-3, 6-3.

METHACTON 7, PHOENIXVIL­LE 0 >> Lauren Montgomery did not drop a game in winning third singles over Phoenixvil­le’s Rachel Wascoe, while Methacton’s fourth doubles pair of Olivia Schneier and Sol Martin earned a 6-0, 4-6 1-0 (10-6) victory over Addison Graver and Lindsay Richter as the Warriors swept Phoenixvil­le in their PAC match.

POPE JOHN PAUL II 7, POTTSGROVE 0 >> Pope John Paul II’s Mia Zernick dropped the first set but rallied for a 0-6, 6-2, 10-4 win over Alaina Hathaway at second singles as the Golden Panthers earned a PAC sweep.

Mia Zernick defeated Pottsgrove’s Rachel Lilliendah­l 6-4, 6-3 at first singles, while PJP II’s Alana Swartz won third singles 6-2, 6-4 over Vianna Le.
