Elizabeth (Souder) Frese
Elizabeth (Souder) Frese, 101, of Worcester, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Meadowood in Worcester. She was the beloved wife of the late Herman C. Frese to whom she was married for over 65 years.
Born September 2, 1921, in Sellersville, she was the daughter of the late Walter B. and Ada Mae (Beisel) Souder who owned and operated the Souder Box Factory located on Central Avenue in Souderton. She was the captain of her high school debate team, salutatorian and treasurer of her Souderton high school class (1939). Later in life, she received an award as an outstanding graduate. After high school, she graduated from Taylor Business School and went to work for Smith Barney pursuing her love of finance.
Betty married Herman C. Frese on September 25, 1943, at Ft. Smith, AR. Prior to returning to Souderton, she became the secretary to the Superintendent of School in Elizabethtown, KY. While living in Kentucky she developed and refined her many artistic talents, including painting. Following the war, Betty and Herman returned to Souderton where they raised their family. Club and the local community. She was a cofounder of the Indianettes Booster Club for Souderton Area High School. Both Betty and Herman were awarded the Four Chaplain Legion of Honor Membership in recognition of their community service. Although Betty and Herman enjoyed traveling, they always found solace in returning home and spending their summers along the Delaware River in Byram, NJ. They also enjoyed watching Philadelphia sports together. Following Herman’s passing, Betty moved to Meadowood where she has resided for the last 14 years. Throughout her life she enjoyed her family.
She is survived by her children, Christopher R. Frese and his wife, Susan, of Conestoga, PA, and Wendy F. Irwin and her husband, Joseph, of Washington Boro, PA; her daughters-in-law, Mary Lou Harkins and Carol Frese; eight grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her sons, Richard S. Frese and W. Scott Frese.
Relatives and friends are invited to her memorial service at 11 AM on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Meadowood Strasburg Auditorium, 3205 W. Skippack Pike, Lansdale, PA 19446, where the family will greet friends following the service. Interment will be at Leidy’s Church Cemetery.
