Vacaville dinner benefits cancer research, women and girls

- The Reporter

“Lobsters Around the World” is the theme for Soroptimist International of Vacaville’s 18th annual lobster dinner fundraiser, which will be Saturday, Oct. 19.

The evening and theme are a tribute to the memory of longtime Soroptimist Wendy Wasserman Kellogg, whose family has operated Wasserman Travel in Vacaville for more than 40 years. Wendy lost her battle with breast cancer in 2018.

“Not only are we dedicating the event in her memory, but we’re donating a portion of our proceeds to the NorthBay Cancer Center, as that was her wish,” explained Lisa Hilas, president of SI Vacaville, in a press statement.

The meal, prepared by Chef Daniel, includes lobster tail and beef tri-tip, risotto, vegetables, salad, dinner roll and dessert — with some extraordinary desserts available via live auction.

It begins with a no-host bar social hour at 5 p.m. at Ulatis Community Center in Vacaville.

Dinner begins at 6 p.m. Live music will be provided by Helios, with dancing after dinner. In addition to the dessert auction, there will also be live and silent auctions, featuring everything from unique works of art to fine wine and exotic excursions.

“We encourage our guests to bring their credit cards and be ready to bid, because some of the auction items are going to be fabulous,” said Hilas. “Among them are a stay at a five-star resort in Cabo San Lucas and another at a beach house in Aptos.”

The dinner and auction proceeds benefit Soroptimists’ projects, which include scholarships, awards for women and girls working to make the community a better place. It also supports S Clubs in local high schools and Dream Maker, a project that works with at-risk women to build confidence and self- esteem.

Tickets are $75 per person.
