DISABLED VACAVILLE LAMB FEATURED
“We are beyond excited to have been voted in to the Walkin’ Pets calendar. The wheels made by Walkin’ Pets have been critical in Scooter’s quality of life.” — Darcy Smith, Scooter’s human mom and founder of Funky Chicken animal rescue in Vacaville
Vacaville’s Scooter McScooterson always had that special sparkle, that It factor, if you will.
Now the disabled lamb’s allure is being showcased in a pet calendar with global appeal that raises awareness of pet mobility issues and celebrates “handi- capable” animals.
“We are beyond excited to have been voted in to the Walkin’ Pets calendar,” said Darcy Smith, Scooter’s human mom and founder of Funky Chicken animal rescue in Vacaville. “The wheels made by Walkin’ Pets have been critical in Scooter’s quality of life. He used them to get around when he couldn’t walk, and then after the surgery he used them to rehab.
“They have been the single most effective physical therapy tool that we have used with him. There is no way that he would be this far along in his recovery without the use of his wheels. Scooter is able to walk in a small area on his own, but when he goes out into the main pasture with the other
animals, he still uses his wheels.”
Scooter’s recognition, Smith said, is an extra treat.
“We are so grateful for his wheels from Walkin’ Pets, and are honored to be the only non- dog animal featured in the calendar. Thank you to all our Facebook followers for voting for Scooter McScooterson,” she continued.
Scooter lost the use of his hind legs when he was just two weeks old. He was rescued by the folks at Funky Chicken, who also took in his mom, fondly known as Mama. Following spinal surgery at the University of California, Davis Veterinary Hospital, Scooter is regaining the use of those limbs.
Meanwhile, Scooter’s Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair helps the active lamb amble about his home, cavorting with his friends and shadowing his protective mom. He also loves to meet newcomers and isn’t shy about coming up to bleat hello.
The folks at Walkin’ Pets fell in love with Scooter, who was one of two California animals chosen for the calendar. The other is a German Shepherd named Blitz. The pair were among candidates from 27 countries all showing off their Walkin’ Wheels wheelchair.
All proceeds from the 2021 Walkin’ Pets Calendar will go to the Handicapped Pets Foundation to help disabled and injured pets in need to get wheelchairs. The calendar, at $12.95, can be preordered.
