Fairfield man accused of fatal stabbing, set for arraignmen­t

A 34-year- old Fairfield man accused of a fatally stabbing another man last week in Fairfield appeared Wednesday in Sola no County Superior Court for a jail arraignmen­t but did not enter a plea and is scheduled to do so in the coming days.

Jason Moran Thomas, charged with the Oct. 9 murder of Davey Mathews, 41, of Fairfield, returns to Department 11 on Oct. 26 for the proceeding­s in Judge William J. Pendergast’s courtroom in the Justice Center in Fairfield.

The Solano County District Attorney filed its complaint and provided the suspect’s record of arrests and prosecutio­ns on Wednesday.

Thomas, who remains in Solano County Jail without bail, is represente­d by the Solano County Public Defender.

Fairfield police reported that around 5:30 a.m. Oct. 9, police and fire fighter/ paramedics responded to a report of a stabbing victim in the area of Boynton and Beck avenues.

Mathews was located and taken to a nearby hospital, where he underwent surgery but later died of his wounds.

“Based on witness accounts and a statement made by the victim prior to dying, a suspect was identified,” officials said in a press statement.

A rou nd 11: 4 5 a . m., Thomas was taken into custody on the Linear Trail and the weapon used in the attack was later located.

Police said a feud between the men fueled the violence.

Just after 2:15 p.m., Moran was booked into Solano County Jail on a single count of first- degree murder.
