Amid the ongoing pandemic, the Solano Community Foundation has awarded 90 COV ID - 19 focused grants totaling $894,898 as of Sept. 30, it has been announced.

The grants were made from the Foundation’s “Community Impact Fund” to non profits that provide for the basic needs of county residents and to nonprofits needing financial support to continue serving the Solano community, Micha Rivers, the Fairfield- based foundation’s media contact, noted in a press release.

So- called Basic Needs grants accounted for 64 of the 90 grants, totaling $629,198, and were given to organizations that provide shelter, food, rent support, utility payments, and protective equipment to residents, she added in the prepared statement. Nonprofit Operating Support made up the other 26 grants and totaled $265,700.

“Rather than making a handful of large grants, the Foundation has strategic ally provided numerous small awards to trusted nonprofits serving people impacted by the pandemic,” Rivers wrote.

The small grants reach pockets of need across the county and provide resources for those who are hard to reach, she added.

“Similarly, the nonprofit operating grants aim to support the nonprofits across the county in hopes that our nonprofit infrastructure will be able to withstand the hardships of the pandemic and pivot their programs to operate in the vast ly changed COV ID -19 environment where social distancing and personal protective equipment are needed,” Rivers wrote.

T he funding for the COVID-19 focused grants comes in large part from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation’ s Rapid Response Fund, which has provided funding to partner organizations around the San Francisco Bay Area.

Sol a no Community Foundation CEO Connie Harris said: “We are forever grateful for the generous support and leadership provided by Silicon Valley Community Foundation. Without the funding received from SVCF’s Regional Response Fund and the Nonprofit Emergency Fund, we could not have provided Solano County residents the critical help needed.”

Serving the charitable needs of Solano County residents, the nonprofit Solano Community Foundation administers a number of component funds that make grants and award scholarships to other nonprofits and schools. It also offers community workshops and training in the areas of governance, fundraising, leadership, management, and advocates for needed programs and services.
