Fairfield police investigating sexual battery cases

Fa ir f ield polic e a re searching for suspects in a pair of sexual battery cases in the area of Hilborn Road.

On Oct. 5, a man ran past the victim twice near Hilborn Road and Garden Meadow Avenue, pretended to be on his cell phone while taking a knee, ran past the victim a third time and slapped the victim’s butt before running off.

He was described as a Black man in his 20s, 5 foot 8, 150 pounds, wearing bla ck k nee - leng th shor ts, a white T- shir t with green writing, black tennis shoes and a white face mask.

On Friday, police received a report of a man in the area of Fieldcrest Avenue and Hilborn Road who grabbed the victim’s butt before running off towards the Sanctuary neighborhood. The suspect was described as a Black man in his 20s wearing a gray sweatsuit.

Both cases remain under investigation.

Police offer the following safety tips when outdoors:

• When walking or jogging have a friend with you.

• Only carry the money you’ll need that day.

• Don’t display cash, cell phone, or expensive jewelry.

• If you think someone is following you switch directions or cross the street. If you’re still followed go into an open store or restaurant or lighted house and don’t be afraid to yell for help.

• Report suspicious activity to the Fairfield Police Department.

• Be aware of your surroundings and avoid distractions such as wearing headphones or talking/texting on a cell phone while walking.

• Walk in well-traveled, well-lit areas. Try not to walk alone whenever possible, especially after dark.

• Know where you are going and the safest way to get there.

• If you need to visit an automatic teller machine, try doing so during the day.

• If you feel unsafe at any time, go to the nearest store or public place.
