FSUSD swears in four trustees, including two newcomers
Fairfield-Suisun Unified installed four members to its governing board earlier this month, including two newcomers, one a community college instructor, the other a private attorney and former trustee, it has been announced.
During a board meeting on Thursday, Superintendent Kris Corey administered the oath of office to veteran members Judi Honeychurch, who represents Area 3, and Bethany Smith, who represents Area 1, and to newcomer Helen Tilley, who represents Area 2. Solano County Supervisor Monica Brown swore-in Ana Petero, who represents Area 6, before a governing board meeting began. Each will serve a four-year term that ends in 2024.
A former governing board member, Tilley is a private attorney-mediator providing alternative dispute resolution services by appointment through her Benicia and San Ramon offices. Additionally, she is an adjunct law professor and subject matter expert with National University in Pleasant Hill.
Petero is a communication studies professor and former speech and debate coach at Solano Community College. In addition to serving on the governing board and teaching, she serves on the Solano Commission for Women and Girls and is part of Fairfield’s “adopt-a-street” program.
Honeychurch has served on the governing board since 2011. In addition to her role on the governing board, she served on the fundraising committee to buy land for the Rockville Trails Park. She has been a member of the Fairfield Visual Arts Association and the Lawler House Gallery Association in Suisun. Also, she has tutored students weekly for The Leaven at the Groves Apartments in Fairfield, since 2011.
Smith has served on the governing board since 2016. A project manager in the state of California’s Employment Development Department, she has spent her professional career in the field of workforce development in positions assisting Solano County job seekers and businesses, as well as managing statewide grants.
