Coronavirus: Board of Supervisors to switch to virtual meetings

The Solano County Board of Supervisors will join other local government agencies in conducting meetings virtually, rather than in person, starting with its Tuesday meeting.

A county news release issued Monday stated that the reason was to slow the spread of COVID-19, which has seen a surge in the surrounding region in recent weeks. The chamber where the board usually meets will be closed until further notice.

Even amid the start of the statewide stay-at-home order first issued in March, the board has continued to conduct its meeting in person but has adhered to social distancing protocols, including by limiting the number of people allowed in the chamber and requiring that all attendees wear masks.

The latter attracted a bit of controversy at last week’s meeting when an audience member refused to wear a mask even after being asked by the chair, prompting a 20-minute delay to the start of the meeting until the man was advised by Solano County sheriff’s deputies to exit the chamber.

It is not clear if Monday’s decision was in response to that incident.

The meeting will be livestreamed starting at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Solanocounty.com/depts/bos/meetings/videos.asp. The public may participate in meetings by calling (415) 655- 0001 and using the access code 809855- 665, or by emailing Clerk@SolanoCounty.com.

Among the items before the board, Tuesday are a resolution to authorize the county’s contribution of $1,000 from the General Fund to benefit the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery’s Honor Guard, a resolution approving a five-year agreement with the Workforce Development Board, and a request by the city of Vacaville to conduct a special vote-by-mail City Council election May 4 for District 2.
