Drew Barrymore said it took the perspective of being 46 and becoming a mother to make her realize that her own mother may have had no choice but to have her committed to a psychiatric hospital at age 13. Barrymore said that such a drastic move was probably necessary, even if her stay at the hospital lasted for 18 months and sometimes involved being locked in a padded room or tied to a stretcher. The film star said her mother, Jaid Barrymore, had “created a monster,” a child star who was becoming undisciplined and who had all sorts of “resources” at her disposal for getting into trouble.

Camera ready?

The Solano County Farm Bureau announced that the general public now has an opportunity to gain access to private property for photos at an almond orchard in Davis during the picture-perfect bloom season.

In a statement from bureau Executive Director Lisa Shipley, residents can book a time between 10 a.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Sunday or between 10 a.m. March 5 to 4 p.m. March 7.

Times must be reserved. R.S.V.P. online at https://www.eventbrite. com/e/142552575591 or email almondbloom2021@ gmail.com, and payment is due upon arrival. The cost is $20 per group and only $40 to book a professional photographer on site.

To make this opportunity possible, Farm Bureau, which has offices on Allison Court in Vacaville, partnered with its farmer membership to offer access to the public during the bloom season.

For those interested, the gathering will be at the intersection of County Road 31 and County Road 95 in Davis.

Shipley noted that, before this opportunity became available, some residents trespassed on private property for a quick photo op, causing traffic and safety problems for the trespassers and the farmers.

“We are pleased to now offer this service to the general public to alleviate these concerns and take full advantage of the bloom with a paid reservation,” Shipley wrote in the statement.
