Little League gets green light

-

The California Department of Public Health put guidelines into effect on Feb. 26 which allow many outdoor sports, including Little League baseball, to proceed even for counties in the purple COVID tier, like Solano County.

Little League in Vacaville — which splintered into three separate leagues when the Central Little League was established in the 1990s and split off from the American and National Little Leagues — has restructured.

The 550 youngsters from ages 6 to 14 will now be placed in one of two leagues by zip code — 95687 for the National League and 95688 for the American. The Central League name has been eliminated.

The National Leaguers will play at Arlington Park, the American Leaguers at Centennial Park.

The age brackets remain the same: Farm A, 6 years old; Farm AA, 6-8 years; Minor: 8-10 years; Major, 10-12 years; 50/70, 13 years; and Junior, 14 years.

National League tryouts will be held this Saturday and Sunday, March 6-7 at Arlington Park. Participants need to attend on only one day.

Minors tryouts for 8-year-olds are from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Minors tryouts for 9-10-year-olds are from 9:30 — 11 a.m. Tryouts for Majors 11-12 years old are from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tryouts for the 50/70 13-year-olds are from 1:30 to 3 p.m. and tryouts for 14-year-old Juniors are from 3:30 — 4:30 p.m.
