STA taking nominations for bike commuter of the year

- The Reporter

President John F. Kennedy once said, “Nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike.”

It can not only be a pleasure but also a way to commute to work.

And some people do it every day, which the Solano Transportation Authority wants to recognize.

As part of the celebration for Bike to Wherever Days 2021, one bike champion from Solano County will be recognized as “Bike Champion of the Year” for its commitment to biking for everyday transportation, Vincent Ma, a spokesman for the Solano Transportation Authority in Suisun City, said in a press release issued Thursday. Nominations are being accepted, and the deadline to submit is April 1. Visit https://bayareabiketowork.com/bike-champions-ofthe-year/ to submit a nomination.

“Biking is a great way to improve your physical and mental health, and it’s beneficial for the environment,” said Vacaville Mayor and STA board chair Ron Rowlett. “The Bike Champion of the Year award is a wonderful way to recognize individuals who inspire others to get on their bikes and try a fun and enjoyable way to get around Solano County.”

Historically, Bike to Work Day is the Bay Area’s premier event to encourage commuters in the nine Bay Area county region to try bike commuting for the first time, or to recommit to increasing time spent cycling.

However, due to the pandemic, few people are commuting into their offices, so Solano Mobility is encouraging people to Bike to Wherever during the entire month of May.
