Jury trial date on track for man, 49, charged with child sex assaults

A pending jury trial date is on track for a 49-yearold Fairfield man accused of sexually assaulting four children, some of them under age 10, and other alleged multiple sex crimes that date back to 1998.

Venancio Dizon De Guzman Jr., who was scheduled to appear in Solano County Superior Court on March 1 for a trial readiness conference, will return to Department 9 at 8:30 a.m. April 29 for a trial management conference; and a jury trial at 9 a.m. May 5, in the Justice Center in Fairfield.

Arrested in October 2018, De Guzman has pleaded not guilty to 22 felony charges, including engaging in three or more acts of substantial sexual conduct with children under 14; aggravated assault of a child under 14; forcible rape; forcible oral copulation; and continued sexual abuse of a child.

According to court records, investigators believe one child was younger than 10 when authorities suspected De Guzman began sexually assaulting her in 1998 or 1999, and the assaults continued until 2004.

Another child, younger than 14 at the time, claims De Guzman repeatedly committed lewd acts on her between 2002 and 2006. Still another child told investigators that she was sexually assaulted by the defendant beginning in 2001, when she was younger than 10, and the assaults also continued to 2004.

The most recent claims of sexual assault were expressed by a child who said that De Guzman continuously sexually assaulted her starting in 2009 and until 2012.

The Solano County District Attorney’s Office filed its complaint on Oct. 16, 2018. The defendant was held to answer for the charges on April 29, 2019.

De Guzman remains in Solano County Jail, at the Claybank Detention Facility, with bail set at $2.5 million.

If convicted of all charges at trial, he could be sentenced to spend the rest of his life in state prison.
