Visitors at the Vacaville Museum Saturday had a tough decision to make. Of the 23 rabbits bestowed with designs by area artists for the “Jack is Back” public art project, these visitors had to choose their absolute favorites in the museum’s People’s Choice Parade where all the bunnies were put on display.

Given the creativity artists put into these designs, it was not an easy choice for many. Nonetheless, the top three winners have been announced on the Jack is Back and Vacaville Museum Facebook pages.

Taking first place was Linda Eagleton’s “Dagwood of Shining Forest,” in which Eagleton used dark colors to depict images of nature on the rabbit, including bees on its front paws, plants, and butterflies around its neck and a carrot necklace.

The second-place winner was Jamie Pope’s “Mr. Rabbit,” which utilized an “Alice in Wonderland” theme, complete with playing cards, a golden watch, keyhole, and chessboard.

The third-place winner was Dr. Jill Hunter’s “Leaving on a Jet Plane” which transformed the rabbit into an international tourist. Decked in a map background and wearing aviator sunglasses, this hare showed off its passports, camera, and “Lapin Airlines” tickets to New York, Rome, and Paris.

The project, a sequel to 2015’s “We Know Jack,” called for artists to give designs to fiberglass rabbits and pair them with sponsors before being displayed throughout town and then brought back to the museum for a people’s vote. The rabbits will be given new homes in an online auction. Details will be announced later.
