NAMISolano County offers mental health resources, courses
Free eight-week Family-to-Family online classes begin May 6, and eight-week Peer-to-Peer courses begin May 11 and 12, respectively
NAMISolano County, an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will offer a series of free, online courses and events in the coming weeks and months.
Among them are NAMI Peer-to-Peer, an eight-session recovery course for adults 18 and older with a mental health condition.
As participants learn in a respectful, understanding and hopeful environment, it offers information, skills, resources and “a community of support,” organizers say.
For those interested, registration is required but not a formal diagnosis.
Held weekly, the first of two sessions begins at 10 a.m. May 11, Tuesdays; the second begins at 5 p.m. May 12, Wednesdays.
To register, send an email to Dr. Cervantes, at cerrenecnami@gmail.com or info@namisolanocounty.org.
NAMI Family-to-Family sessions, also lasting for eight weeks, provide mutual support as they offer increased understanding and advocacy skills while helping participants maintain their own wellbeing.
The program is taught by trained family members who have a loved one, friends or significant others with a mental health condition, from depressive disorders to schizophrenia to bipolar disorder.
The Zoom class begins starts at 6 and lasts until 8:30 p.m. on May 6, Thursdays, to June 24. Registration is required.
