Vacaville, Vanden both win matches

Tight race in the MEL

The Vacaville High School girls volleyball team beat host Armijo 25-17, 21-25, 25-12 and 25-11 on Thursday to keep sole possession of first place in the Monticello Empire League.

The Bulldogs (18-3, 11-1) were led by Mea Todd and Emma Johnson, who ran the offense with 17 and 16 assists, respective­ly.

Alexa Simmons led the offense with 11 kills; Mackenzie Godden added seven, and Emma Bayer added six. Godden tallied four blocks.

Kyra Gosset led the defense with 10 digs and 15 service receptions. Malia DeCelle was 15-for-15 behind the service line with one ace, Godden was 13-for-13 with one ace. Todd was 11-for-11 with five aces.

The Bulldogs won the JV match, 25-5, 25-8: Hannah Roderick had five aces followed by Serena Ayala with three. Ashley Chiong had three kills.

The Vaca frosh team won 25-0, 25-5: Nora Brazelton served all 25 points in set one. Jada Madamba had four aces and three kills.

Vacaville travels to Rodriguez on Tuesday.

VANDEN 3, FAIRFIELD 0 >> The Vanden High School girls volleyball team swept Fairfield 25-11, 25-5, 25-18 on Thursday as the Vikings stayed one match behind the Bulldogs in the MEL standings.

Francesca King was 22-for-24 from the line and added 21 assists, six aces and three digs for Vanden (12-3, 10-2). Soleil Sands was 14-for-16 from the line and added three aces, eight kills and three blocks.

Anaya Thrower finished with nine kills and Kelsey Wall had seven kills. Breanna Davis was 13-for-14 from the line.

The Vikings won the JV match 25-6, 25-6. Corda Moore was 16for-17 with six aces, two kills and three assists. Mackenze Lovell was 8-for-8 at the line with six aces and five digs.

Vanden hosts Armijo on Tuesday.

RODRIGUEZ 3, WOOD 0 >> The Will C. Wood High girls volleyball team fell to Rodriguez 28-26, 25-23, 2521 on Thursday in MEL league play.

Hannah Del Rio had five blocks Taylor Ford attacked hard in the middle with six kills.

Julia Meek led the defense with 23 kills. Jaiden Austin and Kennedy Morgan combined for 25 kills.

“The girls fought hard all the way til the end,” said Wildcats coach Paige McConlogue.

Wood (6-10, 6-6) hosts Fairfield on Tuesday.

The Mustangs improved to 1013 overall, 5-4 in the MEL.

VACA CHRISTIAN 3, RIO VISTA 0 >> The Vacaville Christian High girls volleyball team beat Rio Vista 258, 25-8, 25-19 on Thursday in Sierra Delta League play.

The Falcons (11-4, 6-0)

are tied with Linden for first place.

Setter Olivia Immel finished with 12 digs, 20 assists and three aces for Vacaville Christian. Kirra Martin nailed 10 kills, four aces and one block. Kelsey Trumble added two kills, seven digs and five aces.

Olivia Kuch had five kills, five aces and 5 digs.

Faith Martinez helped the team with four aces and seven digs.

The Falcons’ JV team (60) beat Rio Vista 25-9, 2516.
