Both Vaca, Vanden win in MEL race

The Vacaville High School girls volleyball team swept Rodriguez 25-18, 25-22 and 25-19 on Tuesday in a Monticello Empire League match.

Emma Johnson was 14-for-14 and three aces and Malia DeCelle was 15-for-16 with five aces for the Bulldogs (19-3, 12-1) with two matches left in the regular season.

Reese Rogers led the defense with 12 digs and 18 service receptions. Mea Todd and Johnson ran the offense with 13 and nine assists, respectively. Alexa Simmons led the attack with eight kills followed by Mackenzie Godden with six.

The Vacaville junior varsity team won 25-12, 25-22. Aria Woltz had six kills. Ebony Lewis added five kills and five aces.

The Bulldogs’ frosh team won 25-11, 25-21. Nora Brazelton had four kills and six aces. Great defense was provided by Audrey Duffy and Alannah Thiele.

Vacaville hosts Fairfield on Thursday and then Will C. Wood on Tuesday.

Vanden 3, Armijo 1

The Vanden High School girls volleyball team stayed one match behind Vacaville in the MEL standings with a 15-25, 25-11, 2516, 25-9 win over Armijo.

Kelsey Wall was 17-for-19 with six aces, seven kills and six digs for the Vikings (15-5, 11-2). Soleil Sands was 10-for-12 from the line and added five kills and three aces. Anaya Thrower had six kills.

Breanna Davis finished with 13 assists and Francesca King added 10 more. Lauren Whyte had four aces.

Vanden won the junior varsity match 25-15, 25-8. Izzy Taylor was 23-for-24 with eight aces. Lydia Keele was 2-for-2 and had two kills. Hiyaka Otomo was 5-for-6 and had three aces.

Vanden is at Will C. Wood on Thursday.

Wood 3, Fairfield 0

The Will C. Wood High girls volleyball team handled Fairfield 25-11, 25-19, 25-14 on Thursday in MEL play.

Hannah Del Rio finished with 10 kills and five blocks for the Wildcats (710, 7-6). Cristina Collazo had 21 digs and eight kills and Maddy Moorehead had eight kills, 18 digs and three aces. Julia Meek finished with 20 digs.

Jaida Cobbs had 14 assists and three aces and Jaiden Austin added 13 assists.

Wood hosts Vanden on Thursday.
