Vacaville, Vanden advance in playoffs

Both teams will play at home again on Thursday

Vacaville High School moved to the second round of Sac-Joaquin Section Division II volleyball playoffs after defeating Rio Americano 26-24, 17-25, 25-17, 25-22 on Tuesday.

The No. 4-seeded Bulldogs improved to 21-3 overall.

The offense was ran by Emma Johnson and Mea Todd with 20 and 15 assists, respective­ly.

Malia DeCelle had 11 kills followed by Alexa Simmons with nine. Mackenzie Godden and Siera Bandy each added eight kills. Godden and Simmons both had two blocks.

Kyra Gossett had 27 digs and 15 service receptions. Reese Rogers was 18-for-18 with four aces behind the service line.

Vacaville will host No. 12 Ponderosa at home on Thursday at 7 p.m. Ponderosa (14-10) upset Del Oro in five sets in the opening round.

Vanden 3, Pioneer 0

The Vanden High School girls volleyball team swept Pioneer of Woodland, 25-10, 25-15, 25-20 on Tuesday in the opening round of the Division III playoffs.

The No. 4-seeded Vikings (207) will host No. 5 Central Catholic on Thursday.

Anaya Thrower finished with 15 kills and five blocks for Vanden. Breanna Davis was 16-for-16 with 16 assists, five kills and three aces, and Audrey Alexander was 12-for12 at the line and added 18 digs.

Sumerlyn Spencer was 18-for20 at the line and had three aces. Lauren Whyte had six kills and Francesca King had 12 assists.

Pioneer fell to 10-14 overall.

Lincoln 3, Wood 0

The No. 16-seeded Will C. Wood High girls volleyball team fell to top-seeded Lincoln 25-12, 25-11, 25-14 on Tuesday in the first round of the Division III bracket.

The Wildcats swept Lindhurst in a play-in match on Monday

Jaiden Austin had six kills, and Julia Meek picked up 18 digs for Wood (8-13). Jaida Cobbs added 10 digs.

Lincoln (26-2) advances to play No. 9 Placer in the second round.
