VCHS boys, girls cross country teams advance to state meet

The Vacaville Christian High boys cross country team claimed a Sac-Joaquin Section crown in Division V on Saturday at Willow Hill course in Folsom.

The Falcons took the title ahead of Summervill­e and Central Catholic and advanced to the state meet.

Vaca Christian senior Chris Lespron was sixth overall with a time of 18 minutes, 23.4 seconds. Maverick Adam (19:06.3) was ninth, Aaron Laxamana was 18th (19:53.3), Apollo Adam was 19th (19:57.4) and Harrison Jones was 32nd (20:37.8) was 32nd.

The Vaca Christian girls team took second overall in D-V and advanced to state. Bret Harte was the D-V winner.

Katrina Husby was seventh overall (20:56.7), Kara Krulick was 11th (22:38.4),

Laura Everett was 16th (23:04.9), Cate Fereira was 25th (24:41.1) and Kimberly Miller was 29th (25:08.6).

In the D-II race, Rodriguez’s Alexa Amador was 22nd (19:50.3) and Vacaville High’s Hailey Wurzbach was 32nd (20:34.0).

CAUSEWAY CLASSIC IS THIS WEEK >> While UC Davis and Sacramento State prepare to renew its rivalry on the field and the court this week, Aggie fans can enjoy numerous events leading up to a trio of games between the two long-time rivals.

The celebratio­ns get underway with a pair of events sponsored by the Cal Aggie Alumni Associatio­n leading up to Saturday’s football game. The first is “Aggie Night” at J.J. Pfister Distillery in Sacramento (9819 Business Park Dr., Ste. #3, Sacramento,

Calif., 95827) on Thursday from 5:30-7:30 p.m., featuring Causeway Classic related trivia, prizes, and raffle items, as well as a 20 percent discount on food and drinks with your CAAA membership card.

On Friday, Aggie fans can enjoy a pregame celebratio­n at Sudwerk Brewing Co. in Davis (2001 2nd St., Davis, Calif., 95618). Attendees will receive 15 percent off food and drinks, with light appetizers provided courtesy the CAAA.

Attention then turns to the field at UC Davis Health Stadium for a 1 p.m. kickoff in the 67th annual meeting between the Aggies and the Hornets as the two programs battle for playoff positionin­g in the regular season finale.

Following Saturday’s battle on the gridiron, the UC Davis men’s and women’s basketball teams square off against Sacramento State on the hardwood at the Golden 1 Center — home of the NBA’s Sacramento Kings — in Downtown Sacramento on Tuesday, Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Men’s basketball

SAC CITY 79, SOLANO 73 >> The Solano College men’s basketball team dropped a 79-73 road game Monday to Sacramento City.

The Falcons (1-4) trailed 35-27 at halftime.

Solano hosts Skyline at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
