Vacaville High baseball team completes series sweep of Wood

The Vacaville High baseball team completed the series sweep against Will C. Wood Wildcats on Friday with a 4-1 win Friday in Monticello Empire League play.

The Bulldogs struck early with a pattern, scoring a run every inning between the second through the fifth. The Wildcats managed to get a run in the bottom of the sixth inning, but failed to score for the remainder of the game.

The Bulldogs were led offensivel­y by junior Bennie Dyer, who went 2-for-3 with a triple and home run, knocking in a run. Drew Carrington and senior Cameron Malone each had an RBI. Junior Nick Vierra threw the complete game, allowing one run, on four hits with five strikeouts.

The Wildcats were led offensivel­y by senior Bryce Mendez-Dichoso, who went 1-for-3 with a homer and an RBI. The other hits came from the likes of junior Mason Sayre (1-for-3) and senior Jashon Soto (1for-3).

The Bulldogs end the regular season with a 1413 record overall and 8-7 in league. The Wildcats finish up with 10-15 overall and 3-12 in league play.

Softball Buckingham Charter 21, Valley Christian 5

The Buckingham Charter High softball team overwhelme­d Valley Christian, 21-5, on Tuesday in Sacramento Metropolit­an Athletic League play.

The Knights started off the game red hot, scoring 12 in the top of the first. The Lions (2-4) eventually responded with three in the bottom of the third, but the Knights (8-6,61) then responded with seven runs in the top of the fourth. After trading two runs a piece going into the bottom of the fifth, the Lions couldn't bridge the gap.

The Knights are scheduled to host Leroy Greene Academy on Tuesday

Boys tennis Nevada Union 5, Vanden 4

The Vanden High boys tennis team fell short to Nevada Union 5-4, in the quarterfin­als of the SacJoaquin Section playoffs.

In singles matches, the Miners outmatched the Vikings, 4-2. The Vikings' wins came in the first two matches, as Ethan Blunt and James Remeticado both won in consecutiv­e sets.

In doubles matches, the Vikings (3-8) outmatched the Miners, 2-1. The duos of Kenjustin Yabut/Matthew Davis and Kyan Tirso/Mason Hosking winning their respective matches.

“They fought hard all year and I was very proud of them in making the playoffs and fighting hard in every match we played this year,” Vikings head coach Stan Lewis said.

Boys volleyball Christian Brothers 3, Vanden 0

In the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Division III section playoffs, the Vanden High boys volleyball team was swept by Christian Brothers, 25-10, 27-25, and 25-12.

Notable performers for the Vikings included Noah Yi with 10 kills as he was 10-for-10 on serves with two aces.

Edwin Daugherty had six kills and five blocks. Setter Richard Lin was outstandin­g with 20 assists and zero errors.

The Vikings finish their first full season at 19-4 overall, 10-0 in league play, winning a Monticello League title.
