Farmers' Market kicks off Saturday

- The Reporter Staff

The Downtown Vacaville Farmers' Market will kick off the new season with food, fanfare and fun at the CreekWalk Plaza in Andrews Park on Saturday.

Vacaville Mayor Ron Rowlett will be on hand to welcome everyone and officially open the market at 8 a.m. while the Vacaville High School Drumline will set the tempo with their “weapons of mass percussion” to jumpstart the festivities.

“We want the market to be more of an event, a need-to-be-there occasion,” said Market Manager Randi Bolton. “We also want to involve as many local vendors, producers and musicians as possible to make this a real community happening each week.”

There's going to be more to the market than just ceremony and music, as old favorites and new vendors will be on hand to celebrate what should be one of the best market seasons in years. A variety of local growers will be bringing their fresh produce and goods to the market, along with meat, eggs, honey, baked goods, fresh flowers and more. Local animal sanctuary Zinger Ranch will have live animals to visit, while Joyful Art Studio will have an interactive booth available for kids to enjoy — as well as adults.

“Farmers' Markets are community events,” said Downtown Vacaville Business Improvement District interim executive director Maria Alemany. “Yes, people are shopping for fresh fruits and vegetables, but this is also an opportunity to meet new neighbors and enjoy a cup of coffee, a pastry, or some ice- cold lemonade. And the setting at Andrews Park couldn't be nicer.”

The aroma of freshlymade donuts and Latin favorites will fill the air, punctuated by the sound of two Live Music Center groups: The Licks performing from 10-11 a.m. followed by Raccoons at the Party taking the stage from 11 a.m.-noon.

“It's going to be a fun, exciting day at the market,” Bolton said. “Lots of music, food and community.”
