Vacaville baseball falls short against Franklin

In the second round of the Sac-Joaquin Division I Section baseball playoffs on Thursday, No. 9 seeded Vacaville fell short against the No.1 Franklin Wildcats on the road, 7-4.

After trading zeroes on the scoreboard early in the game, the Wildcats jumped out to a 5-1 lead after the first four innings. Trading runs in the remaining three innings, the Bulldogs outscored the Wildcats 3-2, but with Franklin's early lead, the Bulldogs fell a few runs short, ending their season.

The Bulldogs were led offensivel­y by sophomore Cal Elvis, who went 2-for-3, hitting a home run with one RBI. Senior Caleb Morant went 1-for-3 with a double, knocking in a run. Junior Lawrence Westbrook also had an RBI.

Vacaville track and field teams place 2nd at Division III Finals

Out at the Track and Field at Weston Ranch High School this past week, teams from all over SacJoaquin gathered together to compete in the CIF Division III Invitation­al, and the Vacaville Bulldogs boys and girls program each had a strong showing by placing second overall in a field of over twenty different schools.

In the girls events, the Bulldogs finished with 88 team points, behind firstplace Ponderosa with 146. Top performers of the Bulldogs

included junior Lily Holman, who managed to win at both the 100 meter (12.11a) and 200 meter (24.96a) events. Holman, alongside teammates Kaylei Capossela, sophomore Mia Griego and freshman Isabella Mason finished second in the 4 by 100 meter relay with a time of 49.84a. Senior Sydney Boele finished third in the high jump with a mark of 4'10.00. Vanden girls also competed, finishing 21st with 10 team points.

For the boys, Vacaville finished the event with 90 points, only 20 points behind the winners of the event in Golden Valley (110). Some of the top performers for Vacaville included senior Kellen Steplight, who won the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.85. Sophomore Colton Walker won both the 1600 meter (4:30.08) and 3200 meter (9:28.76) races. Not far behind them in 3rd place with 80 points were the Vanden Vikings. Sophomore Brayden Chavez won the 400 meters with a time of 51.10a. Junior Nathaniel Gernhert won the Discus event with a mark of 140'00.00. Senior Robert Breed won in the Triple Jump (44'05.00) and placed second in the Long Jump (21'10.00). The Will C. Wood Wildcats finished the invitation­al tied for 21st place, with four total team points.

Those that qualified are next set to compete in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Master's at Davis High School, beginning on Friday.
