Upcoming VPAT show features music honoring 27 Club members

In rock and roll, there exists an elite group of musicians who coincidentally all died at the age of 27. Some of the most notable members include Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Robert Johnson, Jim Morrison and Amy Winehouse. Some were stars in their lifetimes, others achieved legendary status later, but all left an indelible mark on popular music in the short time they were around.

While they might be gone, a new concert revue offers an opportunity to hear songs by all the aforementioned musicians performed by impersonators live at Vacaville Performing Arts Theatre.

“27 — The Ultimate Tribute Concert” comes to VPAT June 16. Co-produced by Ramy El-Batrawi and Music Director Erik Himel and co-written by Batrawi and James D'Alessandro, the show debuted in March 2020 — just before the COVID-19 pandemic — at the Troubadour in West Hollywood, where it had a standing ovation. The following year, it began a residency at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas and has been a fixture in Sin City ever since.

Now, the concert is embarking on a tour of California, with Vacaville being the first stop. Each of the tribute artists will be backed by a full band as they perform songs made famous by the singers they are paying tribute to, and it will culminate in all six of them performing onstage together. The show is narrated by John O'Hurley, former host of “Family Feud” and “To Tell the Truth” who also played recurring “Seinfeld” character J. Peterman.

“Throughout the show, the audience is taken on a retrospective journey of sight and sound through flawless depictions of the icons by powerhouse talent, showcasing each artist's respective contributions to our musical landscape,” organizers wrote in a news release.

The show is 8 p.m. June 16 at VPAT, 1010 Ulatis Drive. Tickets are $42 plus tax and are currently on sale at Vpat.net/event/27the-ultimate-tribute-concert/ or by calling 4694013.

Additional stops on the tour include San Jose, Arroyo Grande, Fresno, San Francisco, Atwater, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara. Visit 27show.com for more information.
