Court dates continue for Solano man, 51, charged with fatal April shooting
Before a 51-year-old suspect in an April 21 slaying in Fairfield faces a preliminary hearing, other court matters will have to be settled, The Reporter has learned.
Richard Raymond Klein, scheduled to appear Monday in Department 11 for a preliminary hearing setting, a motion to set bail and a pretrial services report, heard a judge order him and his defense attorney, Cate Beekman, to return to Department 15, Judge Robert Bowers' courtroom, for a motion to compel and contempt of court at 9 a.m. June 20 in the Justice Building in Vallejo.
Chief Deputy District Attorney Paul Sequeira represented the Solano County District Attorney's Office during the morning proceeding.
A judge denied the pretrial services, and Beekman filed a motion to compel the DA's Office to turn over, photos, reports, bodyworn camera footage, photos of a search, autopsy photos and doorbell video footage related to the case.
Arrested May 3 in the 1200 block of Vine Avenue in Fairfield and booked into Solano County Jail, Klein is accused of the fatal shooting of Anthony Fuimaono, 56, of Fairfield, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Police records show that around 11:30 p.m. on April 21, a group had gathered outside a home in the 300 block of Manzanita Avenue.
A subsequent investigation revealed that an argument occurred and guns were drawn, police said. Fuimaono was shot during the chaos.
An unidentified woman was driving the victim to the hospital when officers arrived on the scene to investigate reports of the shooting, officials said. They saw her vehicle leaving and pulled her over. The wounded Fuimaono was found and later transported to a local hospital, where he died in the early hours of April 22.
On May 5, Klein appeared in Department 11 for an arraignment on the charges. He was represented by Chief Deputy Public Defender Tamani Taylor, who asked the judge to reset the arraignment for 8:30 a.m. on May 13 in the Justice Center in Fairfield.
The Solano County DA filed its complaint on May 5.
Klein, who was convicted of a felony in 2006 in Contra Costa County, remains in Solano County Jail without bail.
