Suspect in hospital after shootout with cops
The suspect in a Sunday night shootout with Fairfield police officers is in custody following an attempted traffic stop and subsequent car chase, where the suspect fired upon them, then was shot when officers returned fire after the pursuit ended in Vallejo.
In a social media post and a press release issued Monday, Jennifer Brantley, public information officer for the Fairfield Police Department, wrote that the pursuit and gunfire started about 10 p.m. when officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 3000 block of North Texas Street.
The driver, identified as Patrick Hall, failed to stop, leading officers in a pursuit, said Brantley wrote.
During the pursuit, Hall shot at officers, striking their vehicles, with one bullet penetrating the windshield of an officer's patrol vehicle, striking the driver's side headrest and narrowly missing the officer, noted Brantley.
The pursuit continued into Vallejo, where officers were able to puncture the suspect's tires with a spike strip. Hall then stopped near Griffin and Gateway, where he again shot at officers, who returned fire, striking him, said Brantley.
Officers “immediately rendered aid to Hall at the scene before he was transported to an area hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries,” she said in the release.
No officers suffered any physical injuries, noted Brantley.
The Solano County Major Crimes Task Force is actively investigating the case, she added.
No additional details, including Hall's age and city of residence, were available, and Brantley did not respond to emails and a telephone call seeking an update by press time early Monday evening.
